In Planetside 1 a long time ago there were regularly 150+ players vs 150+ players congregated into one area, up to the point where friendlies started blinking out of existence. So there really wasn't a limit on the number of players. Sure it got laggy, but when you're spamming high explosives into a group of squishies, do you really care? :)
