Favorite Strategy Games

I could offer some tips for Starcraft though

I bet you could...It's like the national sport in Korea isn't it? I was stationed in Korea and was hanging out with KATUSA and got the impression it's a big deal over there.

I'm a newbie at HoI3 (the original, not Semper Fi or For the Rodina). I'm playing 3 saved games (Germany, the Soviet Union, and Brazil) at my leisure time spent at the computer, which is about 30 minutes a day at most.

Honestly I didn't play HoI as much as I did EU. It seems Redress has already given you a lot of tips though.

I can't believe no one has said Company of Heroes yet! Great game. A mix of WWII and Age of Empires.

That's true...that game is amazing. First time I played through it was blown away how complex it is. That game is a blast.

Panzer General I and II
People's General

I really loved that series....of course I I would save like 30 times through out a map in case some advanced unit with lots of experience got massacred by a hidden group of units....or my pioneer unit got butchered attacking a dug in unit.

that game was blast though. I loved the fact they carried experience throughout the game and had a unit upgrade system. It felt like you really were going through campaigns with the same army.

Oh, so you've been with the KATUSA? Where were you? How was it?
Just curious

I was stationed in Camp Casey. The KATUSA soldiers were all very nice. I thought Seoul was fantastic. The subway system blew my mind...I wish we funded mass transit here in the states to the level Korea does. Visited the war memorial, visited the emperors palace. I really liked it there. It's a beautiful country with very nice people.

The very first Age of Empires was one of my favorites.

For Android on my smartphone, I have two strategy games-Conflicts: Operation Barbarossa Lite, and Age of Conquest. I don't like Age of Conquest that much, too unrealistic, but I still somehow like it for no good reason.
The Conflict series, developed by Joni Nuutinen is an entirely a different matter. He (I think it's a he) is a genius. The Conflicts series also is composed of D-Day, panzer Missions, and some others I think. Very good for such a small device.

Command and Conquer Generals: Shockwave, damn good game. Don't play any other strategy games but I love that game.

Ugh. General was by far one of the worse Command and Conquer games.

Regular Zero Hour - somewhat mediocre.

Zero Hour with the "Shockwave" expansion mod. Much better. Basically there was a lot of content left out of the final release because EA rushed the game, so a freelance team of developers added a significant amount of new content to the game which made the game much more like it would have been if EA had spent more time on it.

It's different enough from regular Zero Hour that even if you played Zero Hour and hated it, you might like the "Shockwave" version.

Eh. Nod vs. GDI and Allies vs. Soviets. If they aren't in the game then it is a sin. Generals was better than C&C4 and probably Red Alert and Tiberium Sun, but it isn't close to the others.

I have been seriously addicted to Paradox's latest offering for the last few days: Crusader Kings II.

Seriously steep learning curve, but it is highly detailed, well designed, very immersive grand strategy on par with Europa Universalis III (and IMO I would even go so far as to say much better than EU3, which was a great game itself).

It is also quite polished and practically bug free at release it seems (which is a paradox for a paradox game), I highly recommend this title if you like grand strategy games (and if you are in this thread this is likely).

Some links to check out:

1st a thread I just read at their forums that I thought was someone bashing the game, turns out I am wrong, it is a good sales pitch for the game.

Enough is enough! I stopped playing.

next.. this is a work in progress but it is a detailed guide to the game that is being written, it will give you a good overview of what is in store for you:

[GUIDE] In-depth Guide to CKII

And to really check it out.. here is the demo so you can try before you buy:

My computer is dead and I haven't bought one in like 5 months. I've been super busy but the fact Crusader Kings II is out...so tempted. I loved the first one but the second one seems like they acted some really cool roleplaying elements. So tempted to go out and buy a new computer and purchase.....but I know I will get addicted...
