Should the US, disregard the inaction of the UN, and interfere in the situation in Darfur?? Or should we wait for international approval before we violate their soveriegn borders??

In my best Kanye West: "Americans just don't care about Africa," just as long as the diamonds keep rolling in.
We aren't waiting for international support, we're just being apathetic until the world community makes us pretend to give a crap. Until then, we're not going to do something to blatantly piss off China.
Does this make me a cynical non-interventionist? I can never tell...

If China would interfere there, this would be ok with me, if the African Union wants to do it, this sounds ok, too. The US should stay out. |

Does this make me a cynical non-interventionist? I can never tell... | Why would the Chinese care if we assist the AU with their Darfur issues?

Lean: Independent Gender: Awards: | Re: Should the US interfere in Darfur?? Part of my reason for asking this question, is to gauge what you all feel is more important. Waiting for international support, or going alone when it comes to genocidal affairs.
I am not interested in this turning into a "When a country has interests at stake" discussion. We all know that is always a determining factor.
I am asking, all things even, should we respect and wait for the international community to ok action before we go in, or should we go in alone without them if need be? |

But everybody just stands by and waits for the US to take action and once againt put our balls on the chopping block. Sure as hell can't count on any others out there to try to do what's right.

After it ended, the Chinese went there with a few thousand troops to secure pipelines. There is a civil war in Darfur now, I have no knowledge about a genocide or Chinese arms supplies to perpertrators. |
