Sudan Liberation Movement-North has committed many serious violations in South Kordofan. The violation include forced recruitment of children and the killing of innocent people in the recent shelling which has continued for three successive. Despite the tragic situations in the region, the international community has turned a blind to eye.
According to Sudan Safari, Raida area is currently seeing intensive forced recruitment of children by SLM-N rebels with the aim of forming a new army ahead of the eminent disengagement between South Sudan and their movement.
The rebels crack down villages in search of children between 9-15 years to force them join the rebels to liberate the region and establish state similar to that of South Sudan, said one of the inhabitant of Raida who preferred to be anonymous. Even rebel commanders enter the houses without permission in search of children, he said.
One day one day, a rebel commander escorted by 13 soldiers armed with automatic guns entered a house. The mother works in the farm to look after her five children whose father died last year.
The commander asked the mother to allow her children to join the recruitment camps, but the mother has rejected the offer. The commander has hinted to the soldiers ordering them to take the children by force.
The children were tied and thrown into a four-wheeled drive pickup. The soldiers began lashing them cruelly with a whip, said the man and his eyes full of tears.
A lot of people have seen the incident but no one could do something. One of the returnees told the sheriff of the area that he had seen more than 375 children in the training camp while other children are distributed among other seven camps. The children, exposed to tough training, use stimulants and artificial food .
Added to the current catastrophic situations, SLM-N is aiming to cause humanitarian crisis in the region with the help of foreign organizations.
