Its about the debate within the literature over the optimal abortion policy. On one side we have evidence that restrictions may have some positive spillover effects (e.g. parental controls reducing the probability of youngster promiscuity increasing sexually transmitted diseases). Despite a pro-choice general policy, restrictions may then be deemed to be desirable. On the other, we have an explanatory variable for child maltreatment. This demonstrates the consequences of forcing more unwanted pregnancies.
