I wonder how some people are interpreting ''Legal only under certain Circumstances'' that is often found in abortion polls and seems to make up the bulk of people polled. Abortion | Gallup Historical Trends

To me it's people who only support abortion in cases of rape, incest and medical triage. These folks often don't support abortions that are mainly done for social or economic reasons.

What do you think it means?

I'd pretty much agree with what you just stated.

IMO most people who see "legal under only certain circumstances" include more than just rape, incest and medical triage; they also include the period prior to the fetus achieving sufficient characteristics of humanity as to be considered a human being worthy of protection under the law.

People who vote "under any circumstances" probably think an abortion should be allowed at any time prior to actual birth at the whim of the mother, whereas people who vote "under no circumstances" forbid it regardless of the listed justifications including to save the life of the mother.

Under certain circumstances is pretty vague unfortunately but I would imagine most choosing it mean the rape / incest / medical triage exceptions.

Under no circumstances is written in a manner not to be vague but those selecting it are overwhelmingly still accepting of medical triage exceptions.

Everything other than emergency lifesaving medical triage is purely an elective act, and in this case that act is killing another human being for personal financial gain or simple convenience. A rape exception, for example, is logically incoherent.

I would think a poll such as that would clearly define the parameters when the questions are asked.

There should be no wondering what the statement means.
