Trump Says Abortion Ban Should Carry Punishment for Women


Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Wednesday there would “have to be some form of punishment” for women who have abortions if the procedure were outlawed in the U.S.

The comment, which is sure to rile abortion-rights supporters, came during a week where Trump is fighting to defend himself on women’s issues on multiple fronts ahead of a key primary in Wisconsin.

At a taping of an MSNBC town hall to be aired later, host Chris Matthews pressed Trump on his anti-abortion position, repeatedly asking him, “Should abortion be punished? This is not something you can dodge.”

“Look, people in certain parts of the Republican Party, conservative Republicans, would say, ‘Yes, it should,’” Trump answered.




Trump has opened a can of worms for himself and the GOP...........off the top of his head he shared something he never thought about on abortion ............

Forget how much more his "views" will turn off women........a group of folks he is not doing to good with these days..............but bound to cause a real uproar in the GOP.........

No more than 30 minutes after the show ended his campaign issued a clarification on the issue............The typical Trump "I never said that........but this what I mean about what I never said.....:roll:
 
If someone illegally buys prescription drugs from a doctor, should that person be punished? Or should only the doctor be punished?

If someone knowingly acquires stolen goods, should that person be punished? Or just the person who stole the goods?

If someone buys heroin from a drug dealer on the corner, should that person be punished? Or just the drug dealer?


The list could go on and on. Everyone would say that both people deserve punishment for breaking a law. But when it's about abortion, suddenly one of the people breaking the law SHOULDN'T be punished???

The idiotic liberal influence on our country has indeed worked it's destructive magic.

Well he originally said that the woman should be punished... then reversed himself later on, which was actually was a reversal on a reversal on a reversal. The man is a serial flip-flopper it seems.

Not so much really. Women would still end up being punished either way.
 
Doctors certainly should be punished and have their medical license suspended.
 
If Trump is the GOP nom, by November there will probably be 5-6 women left who will still vote for him.

Well yeah, if the law is changed to ban abortion, of course there should be punishment for breaking that law. That's how laws work. If there's no punishment for breaking the law, the law is useless.

Is that really so wrong?

If something is illegal - like underaged drinking - and you do it .... doesn't it stand to reason that you'd get in trouble?

So yeah. IF SOMETHING IS ILLEGAL. Then you MUST punish wrongdoers or else your laws are meaningless.
 
The kind of liberal thinking pushed by Matthews' gotcha question is the same kind of liberal claptrap that makes them think a gun manufacturer should be prosecuted when some degenerate buys a gun from them and kills someone.

"We should let the degenerate off the hook and just punish the guy who legally produced the weapon."

The screeching liberals are opposed to that position. What are they supposed to do? Ignore it and let it slide? Is someone a "dumbass useful idiot" for having a position that you don't agree with? And why does Trump have to backtrack on this position? If he believes it he should stand by it, not be a coward and backtrack the moment it appears that it won't work politically.

Besides, it's not just "screeching liberals" who are calling Trump out on his comments.

Listen JasperL, many times the women themselves are victims. I have much more sympathy and compassion to throw them into jail.

We should go after the 3rd parties involved. Unless the women was maliciously attacking the fetus, we should not punish women.

I understand that she might be a victim in how she became pregnant, but when she decides to go to get an abortion she is not a victim at that point. At that point she is the party paying another party to kill her unborn child. Furthermore, the US does in fact punish people that hire others to kill.

Then you can't really believe that it's murder. That's the problem with your position - if it's "murder" the woman is an accomplice and as guilty of "murder" as the "3rd party" and so should be charged with the same crime.

I understand the premise of your argument however abortion providers like PP are brainwashing women into thinking abortion is okay.

When women are being brainwashed into thinking abortion is a women's right and not an immoral act, the root of the problem should be fully addressed.

Let's deal with the real perpetrators first: Abortion clinics - defund pp and make contraceptives like abortion pills ILLEGAL. Once we do that, then we can prosecute doctors, pharmacists and drug dealers that provide them.

After that we can begin the healing and re-educate women on abortion through in-person counseling and training. Once we have done that, then we can prosecute those women that kill the unborn.
 
In a ideal society, women should be prosecuted for having an abortion however the carnage caused by Roe v. Wade and years of liberal policies pushing abortion as a right has degraded our society's moral values.

I cannot blame these women whose ways of thinking has been completely warped and altered into thinking abortion is okay. All you have to do is read some of the pro abortion posters in this sub-forum. They are nuts!

Problem is, Trump started off with the premise that abortion should be against the law. ("I am very Pro-Life" he stated repeatedly.)

There really is no getting around the the fact that Mathews played him (Trump) like a fiddle in the interview. And The Donald took the bait and stuck his foot in his mouth.
