Women stopped using the most effective types of contraception and more babies were born on the government's tab after Texas cut off funding from Planned Parenthood clinics, a team of Texas researchers said Wednesday.

The number of claims for long-acting contraception plummeted by more than a third and births paid for by Medicaid rose 27 percent, the team at the University of Texas at Austin reported.

"This new research shows the devastating consequences for women when politicians block access to care at Planned Parenthood. Politicians have claimed time and again that our patients can simply go to other health care providers — and tragically that's not the case. Instead, women were left out in the cold," Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a statement.

This should not be a surprise to anyone. It was predicted.

Anti-Abortion Extremist Behind Planned Parenthood Videos Turns Himself In

David Daleiden has turned himself in on two charges related to illegally infiltrating the reproductive health group amid calls from activist groups to stop spreading his anti-choice propaganda.

Criminalizing fornication, putting women back in the home where they belong, etc. would probably be even better at reducing the number of children born on the public dole (but not the number of children born in general).

You forgot execution for possession of a condom.:lamo

Citizens of the United States belong wherever they want to belong. Now, if you don't believe in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, there are countries in the Middle East with your viewpoint with people who also don't believe in freedom for all citizens. They'd be happy to see you. They might cut your head off or jail you. But they'd be happy to see you. (You see, like you, they don't believe in freedom for everyone, either. Just for themselves.)

From Science Daily:

The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine
on Feb. 3, used administrative records to assess rates of the provision of contraceptives, as well as deliveries (childbirth) covered by Medicaid from 2011 through 2014 -- before and after Texas excluded Planned Parenthood affiliates from a publicly funded women's health program.

The researchers found that since the exclusion, 35 percent fewer claims were made for long-acting, reversible contraceptives, such as implants and intrauterine devices; and 31 percent fewer claims were made for injectable contraceptives, such as Depo-Provera. In contrast, no significant changes were found in the provision of short-acting hormonal contraceptives, such as contraceptive pills, patches and rings.
...

The study also noted a 27 percent increase in the rate of deliveries paid for by Medicaid among women who received injectable contraceptives prior to funding being barred for Planned Parenthood.

"This study isolates the effect of the exclusion not only on the delivery of services, but also on subsequent deliveries paid by Medicaid," said lead author Amanda Stevenson, a Ph.D. candidate in sociology. "We examined differences between counties that had Planned Parenthood affiliates versus those that did not to determine how the public was affected once affiliates could no longer use public funds to provide contraceptive services."

Did it stop taxpayer funding of a company that does abortions?

How does the taxpayer play into this. For months now, PP has been under a Congressional and State Legislators microscope in a frenzy to find wrongdoing. They did not and can not. Why? Because there is none. What you and others like you who don't understand the law is: PP has to file claims for each patient as does all other medicaid providers in every other medical related discipline. The only women who have taxpayer paid abortions - are paid for via Medicaid BECAUSE their lives are in jeopardy or their long-term health is at stake.

The govt gives money to PP. PP does abortions. There doesnt have to be a direct link. The people of Texas dont want any money going to a company that performs abortions. This bill stopped that.

PP isn't going anywhere. You can't speak for all of the people in Texas. I'm a native Texan. I've been around a quite a few decades. I believe I'm more in touch with what Texan's want and don't want. Governor Abbott and quite a large number of Texas Legislators are pandering the the far right religious organizations because they are filling up the election collection plates of these politicians who would sell their grandmas for a buck. It's THEM who want to shutdown PP, not MOST Texans. But they won't because they can't find any wrongdoings. They've been relentlessly trying to, but have failed. Just like your argument.

Well, the RADICAL Texas Gov Abbott and his henchmen in the Legislation won't get away with this ploy. Texas is filled with politicians who reap huge sums from far-right religious organizations who keep their election collection plates full. It's not a matter of IF, but WHEN Texan's will get rid of these radical wacknuts who want to rule rather than govern.

Nah, but it just adds to your lack of credibility. Just come out and say it directly - you support theocracy.

Jump a fenced property line and tell me how that works out for you.

I'm not going to follow your red herring. The role of religion in government is not the topic here.

I agree, but not just any type of theocracy. It would have to be Paleocracy. He doesn't believe that most organized religions are legitimate. Apparently he believe that there is only one true religion. But I'm not clear on which one that would be.

Well, it is the topic when you want the rest of us to follow your will theocratic ideals.

No, his preferred governing system is a Catholic Confessional state.

Just like your civility.

My civility? What about my civility? You're not a resident of Texas. You don't even have a vote in Texas.

Planned Parent still exists in Texas. In fact, there's 3 sites in the Texas Capitol. The radical Texas Legislation and our zealot Gov...didn't shut down PP, it only limited their state resources. They get a lot of private money, in addition to State and Federal funding.
