How tragic. People anticipating the birth of a new baby would be devastated by news of terrible defects, and the termination of such would be devastating, as well as the thought...and being faced with (as the article described)...watching the suffering death of such an infant if born.

So sad for the parents. What a horrible decision to have to make. But it sounds like the born alive baby (through abortion) is cared for in the same way an extremely premature baby might be cared for - palliative care. Kept warm in a blanket and allowed to pass on naturally.

I wonder how close they are to diagnosing catastrophic abnormalities and diseases much earlier.

My thoughts?

People who willfully kills or conspire to kill babies should be put down.

Let us be honest. You think that someone possessing a condom should be executed as well.;)

Your opinion is duly noted and discarded.

It happens more in Canada because Canada does not have a law like the US that prevents induction or removal of the fetus 20 weeks gestation or younger unless that fetus is already dead. ( naturally or with a lethal injection to the heart).

Now you're trying to say that you are putting them out of their misery?

A few things to note about this.

First, induced preterm labor using injection to kill the fetus is not performed in the States anymore, due to both things like this and greater bodily stress to the woman. It's a bad deal for everyone involved. It still is practiced in the UK and apparently Canada, and I have no idea why.

Second, when this WAS more common in the US, the primary reason was because other abortion procedures were inaccessible to women who were that far along, usually for no good medical reason. I don't know if this is the case in the UK and Canada, but if it is, then the solution is to make these other options available to these women with catastrophic and lethal fetal anomalies.

It is unfair both to the parents and the fetus to create this kind of situation when there is frankly no good medical reason for it. The entire reason the parents are aborting is often a decision motivated by mercy -- not wanting to carry to term and let the then-infant simply suffer to death. So why are they putting them in a position where that might happen anyway?

This is 100% avoidable. There is no reason to be performing inferior procedures on these women.

Yes. What part of "lethal anomalies" did you not understand?

You think wishing on a star is going to make these fetuses suddenly perfect and pink if only these women would carry to term?

Oh, so it's "devastating" for the assholes who hire someone to kill their kids when the kill is botched?

**** them.

They probably feel the same about you.
