Abortion Dead Enders

Is it just me, or is it hilarious that abortion advocates are having a lot of trouble finding young people who are willing to support abortion rights?

After all, thanks to abortion they are more likely to be only children or may not have been born at all!

A "pro-life" libertarian. How exactly does that jibe?

"Keep the government out of our lives but feel free to poke around in women's bodies."

You guys are a trip.

It seems to have NARAL distressed, anyway.

They have 75 to 80% of Americans supporting abortion, it's enshrined as a constitutional right by the courts, and yet they still have these panics about losing that right on a regular basis. Go figure.

Might have something to do with politicians promising to take it away every single election.

There's a walloping big difference between people who support abortion rights and people who've actually had abortions.

True. There are people who will stand outside an abortion clinic and protest the day before and the day after they have their own abortion at that same clinic.

Actually, I'm not pro life. I just remarked on the irony of birth control advocates complaining about the lack of young liberals.

So? I have it on good authority that some Democrats actually have children.

...what does that have to do with anything?

Do they actually think that's going to happen? I suppose I can see the benefit of keeping people all riled up about it, for the professional advocates, that is, but maybe someone ought to tell the people there's nothing to worry about. Nothing short of a constitutional amendment is going to change the situation, and that isn't even a remote possiblity. There is no conceivable present or future SCOTUS justice who will vote against Roe.

Any state or federal law that actually restricts abortion significantly will be struck down by the courts.

Ah. I see. I'm just finding controversy where there is none.

Libertarians are not, for the most part, anarchists. Even Libertarians believe that there are some functions that government needs to serve, and that among these, are the enactment and enforcement of laws which prohibit one person from unjustly taking the life of another.

It has nothing to do with “poke[ing] around in women's bodies”; and everything to do with protecting the lives of the most innocent and defenseless of all people.

Ah, another one here who thinks fetuses are people. People are eating and breathing entities that exist out here in the atmosphere. Fetuses are attached to an umbilical chord and live deep inside the womb. Maybe you all should have paid attention in biology class, after all.

Abortion facts: Up until about 12 weeks, the mother determines what happens to the embryo as it slowly transitions into a fetus. She has exclusive rights; she rules over it. Nothing you can do about it. Almost no one denies women should have this right.

After 12 weeks, things get more complicated, especially as the fetus becomes viable. It's in this grey area where debate on what exactly defines a person can take place.

Very true. But that means nothing to the political parties, they divide and conquer, they segregate us voters into groups and then play to each groups fears in the search for votes. Reality never enters vote getting. Neither party cares if you really support them, only that one party can get you to the hate the other party enough so you will pull the lever for their party’s candidate. Truth is the first casualty in an election campaign, truth becomes irrelevant. Only fears of the electorate, the idea is to build up so much fear against you opponent that more people will vote against him than for him.

The Republicans would do much better to drop abortion all together; it is as you say a done deal. But as long as the GOP is tied to the religious right, it really can’t do that. They are a sizable chunk of voters. Not enough to put them over the hump, but a sizable chunk none the less.
