Re: Positions on Global Warming

I think it is warming, but I am skeptical as to how much mankind is contributing to that. And I don't see whatever miniscule warming trend we are seeing, as being some kind of impending disaster. The climates of today are pretty much identical to the climate of 30-50 years ago. Rainforests aren't sprouting up in the middle of deserts.

Re: Positions on Global Warming

Hard to tell since in this cover up records have been destroyed.

Climate change data dumped - Times Online

SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.

It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.

The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.

The data were gathered from weather stations around the world and then adjusted to take account of variables in the way they were collected. The revised figures were kept, but the originals — stored on paper and magnetic tape — were dumped to save space when the CRU moved to a new building.

The admission follows the leaking of a thousand private emails sent and received by Professor Phil Jones, the CRU’s director. In them he discusses thwarting climate sceptics seeking access to such data.

In a statement on its website, the CRU said: “We do not hold the original raw data but only the value-added (quality controlled and homogenised) data.”

The CRU is the world’s leading centre for reconstructing past climate and temperatures. Climate change sceptics have long been keen to examine exactly how its data were compiled. That is now impossible.

Jones was not in charge of the CRU when the data were thrown away in the 1980s, a time when climate change was seen as a less pressing issue.

You forgot to add "The Earth is going through natural cycles".

Re: Positions on Global Warming

Perhaps the earth is reacting to the relatively short history of man's cfc emissions. It is not far-fetched to be of the belief that certain changes in global weather patterns is "drastic". But there are two ideas from the AGW advocacy that are very impractical;

1. That select industrialised economies like the USA can withstand the more strident and popular solutions being suggested.

2. That the popular solutions can have the profound hoped for affects.

Either we are headed toward catastrophe now, or we aren't.
A "tipping point"? How absurd to think anyone would have a handle on where such a thing can lie.
How absurd to think man can manipulate climate in one direction, AND THEN ANOTHER, MORE ACCEPTABLE STATE!!?!!

Ignorance is driving the strident arguments for the sole purpose of scarying the masses to get on board foolish extravagant solutions. Let us just go about cleaning up our methods efficiently and economically, and otherwise cut the crap hysteria.
