Republicans move to delay climate bill progress

Republicans move to delay climate bill progress

Quote:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - All seven Republicans on the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee plan to boycott next week's work session on a climate-change bill, an aide said on Saturday, in a move aimed at thwarting Democratic efforts to advance the controversial legislation quickly.

"Republicans will be forced not to show up" at Tuesday's work session, said Matt Dempsey, a spokesman for Republican senators on the environment panel.

Under committee rules, at least two Republicans are needed for Chairwoman Barbara Boxer to hold the work sessions that would give senators an opportunity to amend the controversial legislation and then vote to approve it in the panel, which is controlled by President Barack Obama's fellow Democrats.

But Republicans are demanding more detailed economic analysis of the bill by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency -- a task that could take more than a month -- before agreeing to participate in the work sessions that are called "mark ups."
Way to be productive.

And relevant.

Let's all act like spiteful children...

LOL - Congress is just always like that, regardless of the side you're on or what's being debated, etc.
Filibusters are another example of childish behavior.

Glad to hear that.

Job-destroying fantasy solutions to imaginary problems are not progress, imho.

Ehhh - there are so many committees that are chaired by so few people sometimes they just can't attend all meetings.

Not all committees are necessary and not all bills are important enough to net it an outrage when they postpone it.

On another note - I loathe when an article refers to a bill and then fails to name it's title or number, making it more difficult to determine the merrit that they claim to have in their statements.

Here's the Environmental Committee and all they have on their plate:
U.S. Congress Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works - GovTrack.us

Several might be the one this article refers to, I've yet to pick out exactly which one it is ...

That's just horrible of the republicans for trying to stop a bill that is going to make the cost of everything rise dramatically.

I think it wise of the Republicans to say no to the climate bill.

The Dems, and a few socialist European leaders, are of the school that if we sign up for it China and India may join in later. The operative word here is "may". The Dems are too naive.

Nothing against China or India, but they are not going to sign on unless they have to.

And America signing on before they do, is stupid.

We are in fiscal trouble, and it is hard enough to compete on the global market with China and India as is. Now let's be stupid and tie our hands with red tape while we let their hands go free.

The climate bill will strap our businesses, which will make it worse for our country.

Maybe in the future when we are doing better finacially, and when China and India are on-board, should we then take it on.

In the meantime, if the Dems are really concerned about the climate, they should allow a few nuke plants to be built in order to decrease burning fuels.

And think of the money we would save on having to buy OPEC oil.

Funny how the Europeans are ok for us signing up on such a bill (recent German leader address to the pols in DC lavishing over it all); they have quite a few nuke plants, so they can afford to.

We can't. And we shouldn't until a bill includes nuke plants, along with commitments from China and India to be on-board too.

Re: Republicans move to delay climate bill progress

To focus on a matter of this destructive two party team that exists isn't productive either.

The notion that our species has the knowledge and understanding of the workings of our planet and it's weather patterns is clearly not true. We don't even have 100 years of solid global scientific weather recordings, we cannot accurately predict the weather tomorrow 100% of the time, what makes anyone think that we know what's going on at all?

The media wants you to believe there is a big problem and that the government needs you to fix it for you. The government couldn't solve this type of problem, nor most it is faced with. The government is not an army of scientists, most of them are nothing more than professional liars who sit where they do every day because democracy has failed.

Our species has, at best, minor hints or clues as to what has occured on our planet over the past few billion years. Anyone who makes claims of -knowing- about a danger of something to do with our weather in the far off and distant future is likely the same group of people who will tell you that only cops should have guns. They want to control you and eventually kill you. Look into fluoride and aspertame if you need proof.
