You would expect a seasonal shift in size. What's the point, vicc?

If we can melt the ice over Antartica, we can drill for more oil there. Win/Win for everybody(except on low lying coastal areas).

Every year we hear about those ice shelves breaking off?

Sea_ice Sea_ice
is entirely different from an
Ice_shelf Ice_shelf
. Sea ice waxes and wanes with the seasons just like snow cover. Ice shelves are glaciers and such and are more permanent features.

A slight aside - do you dispute that the earth is warming or just that humans are the cause?

I dispute AGW, I quite readily accept that the climate, she changes year to year, decade to decade, century to century.

Now, as for your silly point about the Ice Shelf, let's review the video fo the sea ice, notice, it shrinks, do you think shrinking does not effect the ice shelf too? Do you think it is only because man that Ice breaks off from time to time?

And Seriously, what is the perfect "climate" for earth? What is that perfect range?

Now, as for your silly point about the Ice Shelf
Belittling my post does not make your argument stronger. You are drawing a comparison between a phenomena akin to the winter snow melting and the breakup of glaciers.

Ice shelves do shrink and expand with the seasons, but negligibly compared to their size. Ice shelves of sufficient size to have their breakups be newsworthy are hundreds of meters thick and have hundreds of square miles break off at a time. The cause is not the relatively minor seasonal fluctuations, but a steady rise in temperature over the past few decades. This causes massive ice shelves that have been stable for as long as people have known about them to break apart. The cause of these massive breaks, rising temperatures, is indisputable. Whether the cause is anthropogenic or not, rising temperatures and not seasonal fluctuations cause the collapse the of ice shelves big enough to be notable.

That is a complete strawman, which we discussed in this thread (Government report: climate change here, mitigation needed now). If you have anything to add I'd prefer to continue in the linked thread so we don't pull this one off track and make it a general discussion of climate change, which is what threads in this section tend to converge to

When did the glaciers start to melt?

(I'll give you a hint, it was BEFORE the industrial revolution)

Except that the last decade has shown no rise in temp, thus defeating your own theory.

Actually, we've only known about them for about 100 years or so, AFTER the OTHER glaciers had begun to recede. Thus your point is moot.

They have drawn generations of climbers and tourists to the Alps from Europe and beyond. But since 1850, western Europe's glacial area has shrunk by up to 40%, and the volume by more than 50%.

And you can do this at home too kids, take a large piece of ice, and a smaller one, which one melts faster?

Notable to whom? Ice sheets have been breaking off for as long as we've been tracking them.

It's not a strawman. It's the one thing none of you on the "ZOMG MAN BAD!! AGW!!!!!!!!" can answer, what is the perfect climate and why do you think man can induce it.
