I think Michelle Malkin found a report that supports her world view and she put it on her blog.

Actually, Malkin didn't even do that much. She copy/pasted a few paragraphs from a piece on CSNNews and put it on her blog and didn't even credit the writer.

But enough about Malkin.

You want to discuss the contents of the report? Have any other economists reviewed the report? Have any other Spanish economists published contrary findings or is this the general consensus among economists who have studied Spain's approach to green jobs?

Write Michele and see if she knows...

You don't really expect a response to your post/rant when you say stuff like this do you?

Uh...

Some commentators have reported that Spain has lost 2.2 jobs for each job created by solar, wind or hydroelectric power producers. But the study instead is talking about opportunity cost -- the jobs that weren't created because resources were used inefficiently, or what the French economist Frédéric Bastiat meant by "what is seen and what is not seen."
Green Joblessness - WSJ.com

That's a big assumption, assuming that the opportunity cost of the other jobs actually existed.

Re: Spain's Green plan failure

I remember that Spain was building a solar plant that uses lots of mirrors to focus light on a tower, and they were claiming it could supply X amount of houses, and then tried to say that it could supply the same amount in the USA, trying to slip past the reader that in Spain, homes use about half the energy than homes in the USA.
Any green plan here that does not include lifestyle changes is doomed to the same kind of "success" that the Spanish enjoy...

Many assumptions are made in economic models (even more in climate change models... but I digress). I think that the logic of the WSJ article supports the claim of "Spain's green plan failure". My concerns are more than diverting more profitable dollars (or raising taxes) to support initiatives that are not self-sustaining. If Obama follows through on promises to bankrupt coal and make electric rates skyrocket (as forced wind and solar quotas will contribute to) then the economy will suffer greatly from electricity shortages.

Universities certainly get research dollars to come up with green initiatives and cleaner energy sources. However, to be viable they must be able to compete with conventional energy sources to some degree.
