H.R. 2454, The American Clean Energy and Security Act

Finally, here it is folks:

H.R. 2454, The American Clean Energy and Security Act

Quote:
Chairman Henry A. Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Edward J. Markey introduced "H.R. 2454, The American Clean Energy and Security Act." The Energy and Commerce Committee will begin markup of the bill on Monday, May 18, 2009, at 1:00 p.m., and will complete consideration before the Memorial Day recess.

"The legislation will create millions of new clean energy jobs, save consumers hundreds of billions of dollars in energy costs, promote America's energy independence and security, and cut global warming pollution," said Chairman Waxman. "In support of these goals, this legislation ensures that consumers and industries in all regions of the country are protected. I look forward to working with all members of the Committee to approve this legislation to make America the world leader in new clean energy and energy efficiency technologies."

"This bill marks the dawn of the clean energy age," said Subcommittee Chairman Markey. "This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to revive our economy and create millions of good-paying clean energy jobs. After months of hearings and discussions with my colleagues, I am pleased that we have produced a bill that has widespread support from all regions of the country."
May 15, 2009!

I love laws that state the number of jobs it will create, but never how.

This will create work, not jobs, not careers.

I've called my representative, emailed him, and written him 3 times a day, and gotten friends and families to as well, demanding he do everything he can to stop this.

It's DOA, and if it's not, we gotta find a way to kill it.

Work is what you do at a career or job. For example, these bills have created many jobs. Just think of how many legal assistants and transcriptionists that have built their entire career around typing these things up.

We have congressmen who want to mandate clean energy. They have no clue as to the scale of the issue.

Engineers should demand smart politics. That is just as likely as clean energy.

Stupid is as stupid does...

I don't know about that...given the number of windmills and solar panels it will take to power America, sounds like real job security to me.

IMO, the immediate need is to reduce our energy demand and come up with enough local sources of energy to eliminate the purchases of oil from our enemies.

How many laborers do you think a solar plant requires? Take a look @ Ready Solar or Nano Solar's production process.

Why don't we just hire people to trim my lawn with toenail clippers if we're about make-work jobs. Or to dig and refill holes as Keynesians would have us do.

Lawyers who type up legislation do so whether or not the bill passes. Your point is moot.

considering how many it will take, a LOT of laborers....
To provide 1/6 th of our energy needs on wind, it would take a plot of land equal to the whole state of california. It would take a lifetime to build that many. Solar panels would take about 90 sq. ft. of solar panels PER PERSON to do another 1/6th. Do the math, we have over 300 million here in the USA.....
I got those estimates from a CNN article, they got it from a college professor name of David Mackay.

It's a step in the right direction, with the right intentions.
