Say what? WTF?

Which Washington idiot made THIS decision? Solar produces absolutely NO emissions, and there is nothing about it that can affect the environment. The administration wants drilling. That's OK, but there is a crapload of free energy just waiting to be used, and the Bush administration says NO???? I think some people in the Bush administration got drilled in the head, with the result that they have lost all their marbles. There is only one word for this - Complete insanity - OK, make that two words.

I've never heard that and I've read a bit about them. Silicone is the basic ingredient, though there are some promising new technologies coming on line that use other materials and promise a fourfold drop in price per watt.

Don't get your panties in a wad. Environmental impact studies are required for every type of construction imaginable and should be rerquired when it involves building on millions of acres of public land.

You'd be the first to scream foul if it turned out that solar farms killed millions of birds a year, for instance.

Not only does that make no sense, but Bush is not making the same kind of requirements for drilling. He lifted the ban against offshore drilling WITHOUT an environmental impact study.

And yes, please tell me all about how solar is going to kill millions of birds a year. Got a link? No, I didn't think so. That is because solar has NO emissions whatsoever that could kill a single bird. So much for that red herring.

Emissions are not the only environmental impact. The large amount of space required for centralized solar power stations is a consideration where wildlife is concerned.

You are not being very honest in your assessment of this situation.

The million birds was hypothetical. But, what does a concentrated solar beam from mirrors do to birds that fly through it? Do you know? How many birds will fly into the mirrors and be killed? Do you know? That's the purpose of Environmental Impact Statements.

A more likely concern is that the construction traffic will kill a few desert tortoises or lizards.

And, how do you know Bush didn't require an EIS for offshore drilling. Are EIS's required when drilling in international waters??
