But the population still grows very fast here:
1900 - 76,212,168
1910 - 92,228,496
1920 - 106,021,537
1930 - 123,202,624
1940 - 132,164,569
1950 - 151,325,798
1960 - 179,323,175
1970 - 203,302,031
1980 - 226,542,199
1990 - 248,709,873
2000 - 281,421,906 US Population Through History
From 1900 to 1950, the population doubled, in our developed nation. From 1950 to today, it more than doubled again, in our even more developed nation (current population is about 304,000,000). |

From what I've seen, our birth rate is fairly stable.

What's wrong with a corn based diet?? I grew up eating a corn product every day along with animals fed by corn. | absolutely incorrect.
This is evidence that you have not actually engaged in an organic diet.
Organic and Biodynamic agriculture are simply the best way to produce food.
It is the healthiest and the least damaging to the environment and to people's immune systems.

Also we have to control for specific variables (e.g. income inequality tends to impact on adolescent pregnancy rates).
Has the post-war rate exceeded the replacement rate of 2.1?

As far as a stable birth rate, I guess you're right mathematically, because the birth rate doubled here over the last fifty or so years, and it doubled the fifty years before that. I'm really not sure what you mean, though. |

Current Mood: | Re: Organic farming environmental disaster! Organic foods are best left to an individual basis. Some like it, that's cool. But you can't aggregate it over the whole, you can't produce the same volume you can through other means. If everything were to switch over to "organic" methods, there would be a lot less food to go around. You would see gross inflation of food prices and rapid decrease in supply.
