Jan. 29 (Bloomberg) -- A Palestinian suicide bomber detonated his explosives at a bakery in the Israeli Red Sea resort of Eilat, killing himself and three other people.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Amir Peretz consulted with military and intelligence aides on a response to the bombing and U.S. President George W. Bush's administration warned that more attacks could damage the prospects for Palestinian statehood.
"We will continue with our unending struggle against terrorists and those who dispatch them.'' Olmert told reporters in Jerusalem at the beginning of a meeting with lawmakers from his Kadima Party.
Saraya al-Quds, a militant wing of the Islamic Jihad, said Palestinian Mohammed al-Siksik, 21, undertook today's attack. The group said the bombing was carried out jointly with the armed wing of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction. |
