Gender: Awards: | Re: I am Israel Thought I post this response to Jenin's article. Don't worry about copyright...I wrote it myself, tonight. I would appreciate if TheFaceofJacob, Tashah, or anyone else who shares the sentiments of my article were to edit or add to it. Y'all could probably do better, so feel free, I won't be insulted.
Here it is:
I am Israel
I am Israel - I came to a land without a people for a people without a land. Those people who happened to be here, did not have to leave, and, in fact were asked to stay during the UN deliberations. Instead, they chose to listen to Arabs from other countries and leave, and when they did, those Arab countries refused to assist them. When they wanted to return, they refused to agree to live in peace with Jews here, a requirement as the right of return.
I am Israel – I have been attacked by my Arab neighbors on at least 5 occasions in major engagements and countless other times in minor ones. My people and my children, going about their daily lives have been slaughtered for just being Israeli. The holiest day of the year was desecrated in 1973 with an unprovoked attack.
I am Israel – created out of 56% of the land of Palestine. Arab inhabitants were given equal rights and asked to stay (something not done for Jews in the Arab portion of the partition), but many decided to leave, listening to Arabs in other nations, and hoping for my quick destruction. Jews from all over the world, many persecuted, are welcome. Inhabitants who have left are allowed the right of return as long as they agree to live in peace with Jews here. Most have refused this. And, instead of settling and building on the land allocated for Arabs in the partition plan, these inhabitants have, instead, refused this, continuing to hold out for my complete destruction.
I am Israel – in 1967, facing imminent attack and threatening actions from many of my Arab neighbors, I responded aggressively in order to preserve my survival. With continued attacks and aggression to this day, I have no choice to protect myself and insure my survival. It is hypocritical for Arabs to want to be afforded these rights, but not for me to be allowed to.
I am Israel – Most of my neighbors want and pray for my destruction. Some even have or have had that in their constitutions or charters. I am constantly receiving unjustified sanctions by the UN, often sponsored by those that want to destroy me or by those who are dependant on Arab resources. Yet, often atrocities enacted on my people by those accusers, are either minimized or ignored. I thank America for standing up to and not allowing those who hate me just for existing and those who are dependant on those that hate me to help in destroying me. With so many against me, I am grateful that America and the American press present my position. Many, internationally, don’t do this for fear of angering Arabs and their oil.
I am Israel - and you Palestinians don’t want to negotiate peace. You continue to call for my destruction, continue to, indiscriminately, kill my people, and then continue to create your own propaganda about how evil I am; propaganda that includes many claims of atrocities, most of which, are not, but are, instead, responses to your aggression and ways to prevent my destruction. Yet, all you would need to do is to agree to stop the violence. Yet this is one thing you refuse to do, because to do this you might have to take responsibility for your own shortcomings rather than blame everything on me.
I am Israel - with the fourth strongest army in the world, possessing nuclear weapons. And thank goodness for that, with every neighbor surrounding me hoping for and targeting me for my destruction. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t exist. If you don’t want your children, throwing stones, killed, tell them not to throw stones. It is not always easy, when so many want to destroy me, to know the kind of projectile heading my way. If you don’t want your civilians to be killed, don’t place military weapontry or fire weapons near them. In fact, if you stop the violence, altogether, chances are we both will have peace. It is a shame, though, that the international community continues to condemn me for defending myself, and, often is silent when it comes to your aggressive acts against me.
I am Israel - and you want freedom? You seem to want my destruction. I want peace. I wish you wanted that, too.
