Maggie, I love you to death and if I've misunderstood you, totally correct me. This looks to me a little like what I was saying we need to get away from. I totally understand the disillusionment, I do. I had my own little meltdown last night. If we assume the worst motives of those who vote differently than us, though, we'll never have any reason to look at our own failings and that's something I think the last two failed presidential bids have shown us we need to do.
If you'd have read my posts throughout the day, you'd see that I have said more than once that we (Republicans) need to rethink what on earth we're doing. We're too black-and-white on the issues. If the majority of people in this country think more liberally than we do . . . if they're winning elections . . . then we need to realign our beliefs.
I'm Republican because I believe in fiscal responsibility and think we're in big trouble. But!! If we keep on preaching the same message over and over again, we'll never be in a position to implement any of our conservative beliefs. We simply must find a happy medium. If we don't? I think the Republican Party has "jumped the shark." We are in the minority apparently, and that's scary to me.
No, you probably didn't misunderstand me. I got hot under the collar thinking about it. And two glasses of wine didn't help. Ha! I used hyperbole to indicate my frustration. I really do believe that we are a country that has lost a sense of who we are . . . how we became the great nation we are . . . and are at risk of spending ourselves into oblivion.
*I loves you to death right back.*
