Steve Schmidt was the chief political advisor to Republican 2008 nominee John McCain. He now works as one of the "expert" talking heads on NBC and its other outlets.

NBC ended its major election coverage this morning at 3 AM for the first string squad. Between 2:30 and 3 AM Schmidt provided the main undeniable reason why Mitt Romney and so many Republican Senate candidates went down in flames.

Romney had a landslide of his own last night - he garnered 60% of the White Vote. He won the single largest racial demographic in the land.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204349404578101520589031776.html

The contest showed how dramatically the U.S. has changed in recent years. According to exit polls, Mr. Romney won 60% of the white vote. Mr. Obama won 38%, five points less than his 2008 showing. Not since Walter Mondale, who was swept aside by Ronald Reagan in the 1984 presidential race, has a Democrat recorded a smaller share of the white vote.

When this was last done - 1984 with Ronald Reagan and 1988 with George Bush Sr. - the result were electoral landslides and easy victories. Last night it meant defeat as Obama and the Dems racked up 80% of the non-white vote.

In the 84 election Ronald Reagan carried 49 states with 525 Electoral votes and garnered almost 59% of the popular vote. He got the same percentage of the white vote then as Romney did in 2012.

In the 88 election Bush Sr. carried 40 states with 426 Electoral votes and got over 53% of the popular vote. he got the same percentage of the white vote then as Romney did in 2012.

Schmidt and others went on to say that the GOP cannot last for long as the White Peoples Party - either officially or unofficially. The old formula for victory now translates into defeat as the Democrats garner an every increasing share of the minority vote and the minority vote becomes ever increasing itself from one election cycle to the next.

I have repeatedly stated that the reason for so many state voter suppression laws is that the GOP has only two choices to victory in a national election: they must either move to the middle and stop being the angry white persons alternative to the multi-racial rainbow that the Dems are..... OR ..... they must find a way to defy those Census Bureau predictions that come with a nation where Whites are the minority by 2050 or so.

The increasing "purifying" of the GOP by conservatives and libertarians that started with Reagan some thirty years ago has now resulted in the right leaning party of White Folks. And they cannot win that way.

All voter suppression laws apparently did was to motivate minorities to stand in line for hour after hour and vote on Tuesday in open defiance of those same efforts. They did NOT deliver Pennsylvania for the GOP as a high State Republican had promised when that state instituted its own version of voter suppression laws.

The GOP is now like a football team who clings to using only the rush into the line for a few yards when their opponents have embraced a passing attack or a motion offense. The Republicans are akin to a basketball team who eschew the three point shot and continue to play 1950' style ball while their opponents change with the changes of the rules of the game.

Those who fail to adapt.... those who fail to change ..... those who refuse to modernize while others around them embrace change and adaption can soon find themselves going the way of high button shoes and big band music.

And there is both the answer for yesterday and the huge problem the GOP faces today.

The reason we lost was because people bought into Obama's lies. Sure, yesterday was fun for liberals. But today reality will start to set in. The reason I though we'd win was because I had too much faith in the American people to actually educate themselves. This is the result of dependency, and government education.

The reason that you lost is you sent a message to the US that was idiotic and no one wanted. People are tired of social conservatives telling them what to do and what to believe. And people are tired of fiscal conservatives telling them that they are worthless. You guys sent an idiotic message. Until you change the message, you will continue to lose.

Quite the opposite, we weren't strong enough. Social issues are important, no matter how much people don't want to hear. We can't continue killing off our young, and with Obamacare we will write off our old. With regards to marriage, it is important as well. We are a stupid and ungodly society that cannot sustain like this.

Well done, Captain! You speak the truth!

I love honesty and common sense.

I followed the election from abroad, so I watched international coverage, not American coverage & race was a hot topic through out the night, but it was also acknowledged it was a bi-partisan issue & thats mirrored in the line about Obama securing less share of the white vote than anyone since the defeat of Mondale.

There seemed to be a consensus that while the GOP has become the "white peoples party" the Democrats, through over use of racially charged language is increasingly becoming the party that turns off white people, which further increases the racial divide.

Yes, the GOP has to find a way to appeal to a broader audience, if they want to bounce back, but conversly the Dems really need to stop with the over the top accusations of racism, against anyone who isnt them, if they dont want to further divide the nation.

No, you were wrong, but you didn't want to hear it... no matter how many people told you.

Social issues are important, no matter how much people don't want to hear.

Of course they are... and we found that out yesterday, didn't we?

We can't continue killing off our young

No one's killing the young.

and with Obamacare we will write off our old.

Obamacare assists the old. Your fallacy is old and has been disproven.

With regards to marriage, it is important as well. We are a stupid and ungodly society that cannot sustain like this.

Of course marriage is important. And the public has spoken in states like Maryland and Maine. Face it... your positions on things are unpopular and tyrannical. The American people saw that and voted those positions down. Thank goodness.

He ain't gonna listen. He's the same guy who thought Rick Santorum was the "savior" of the Republican part back in March.

But these same people aren't tired of paying taxes to support people like both of my brothers? They both went into the military, got good job training, got out after 20 years for one, 9 years for the other, and didn't take advantage of the GI Bill for education or even make good use of their skills. They both moved to places where they couldn't get work in their skill set. One was a jet engine mechanic, the other a welder, but those skills aren't needed where they live. But the fishing is good where they live....
The older brother had the balls to ask me for money to pay gambling debts, he didn't get it. I hope he had to sell his boat.
The younger brother will soon start drawing a VA pension based on being a veteran, turning 65, and having next to no income. He lives on a 50% disability for poor hearing, but to talk to him, you would not know his hearing is impaired.
The country is over populated with slackers like them, and guess who is paying for it?
There aren't enough "rich" in the country to keep going down that road, the middle class will be paying it....

Ok, forgot you love it when we lose our religion. Telling you, the end of this country's economy is coming.

I don't find pandering to skin color to be a principled approach to governance, myself.

If'n i had my druthers, I'd want Democrats to stop pandering to race so much rather than having the GOP do more pandering.

the vast majority of issues undertaken by the federal government should be colorblind.. race should not be a factor at all.

with that said, I ran into a lady yesterday at a lil corner store... nice looking gal, friendly as as hell and open to a lil flirtin' from an old guy ... she had 4 or 5 pins on her lapel ..
" Women for Romney", they said.... I made a lil fun of that and told her " a vote from Romney is a vote for Obama" ( had to explain I was a Libertarian for her to get it).
what was odd about the whole thing was that she was black.
pretty much went against all the stereotypes we've been accosted by... a black lady in semi-rural Texas voting for Romney.. the guy we were told was at war with women.

I shoulda told her she was racist for voting against Obama ( as goes the standard leftist meme).. but i just didn't have it in me to be a dick to such a nice lady.

Ok, forgot you love it when we lose our religion.

I happen to be one of the most religious members at DP... and I see nothing that indicates any loss of religion. You lose AGAIN.

Telling you, the end of this country's economy is coming.

Not in the least. Chicken Little was never right.

BS! Complete and total. To ignore the fact that the US Electorate has become totally "dumbed-down" is in itself ignorant. People who voted for Obama for the most part voted for one of four reasons; his ethnicity, their dependency on Uncle Sam, their simple ignorance and "sheep mentality" or their believe in the Progressive ideals. My guess is that 70% are the first three reasons.

The reason that you lost is you sent a message to the US that was idiotic and no one wanted. People are tired of social conservatives telling them what to do and what to believe. Tell me... with 8% unemployment, 6 TRILLION blown, with debt up to our eyeballs and an economic illiterate at the helm... you cite social issues that weren't the theme of the campaign?

This is why we have trouble in America.

Enjoy the next four years. It's going to be a doozy watching this incompetent flail away.

Try reading my ENTIRE post and not being selective. I focused on BOTH. That's a big fat fail for you... and why we have so much trouble in America. People like you just don't look at the big picture.

And I will enjoy the next four years. It will be far better than if incompetent extreme conservatives were in charge.

First WE ALL lost yesterday. Secondly the idea that NO ONE wants to hear about fiscal or social conservitisim is silly. The reason Romney was defeated is simple. The majority of the US Electorate is ignorant. How else to explain the fact that people will vote for a man who has presided over a TRILLION DOLLAR per year deficit spending? How else to explain that a majority of people will vote for a man who for the last year plus of his presidency has not led at all, but campaigned for re-election? How else to explain that the majority voted for a man who has been the most socialistic President in history? Who has no real plan to re-invigorate the economy? Who champions "Fair Share" economics?

The people who voted for Obama did so for one of four reasons; his ethicity, their dependency on Uncle Sam, they believe in his Progressive ideas, or they are part of the sheep herd who has been following everything they hear on NBC, CBS, ABC or MSNBC. I would guess that the majority are #1, 2 and 4.

I think Obama won mainly due to four reasons
1. Romney was an uninspiring rich compulsive liar who could not connect to voters and kept doing gaffles.
2. Republicans have done way too little to get the youth vote. The youth are the ones who tend to dominate the internet and create media. That is very important.
3. Republicans have lost a lot of educated members. It is important to keep educated members because they are the ones who tend to dominate the media, and universities
4. Republicans need to stop looking like an anti-women, anti-poor, anti-minorities party.

If all of these steps were resolved, then republicans would have won this election easily.

First WE ALL lost yesterday.

No, you lost. I did not.

Secondly the idea that NO ONE wants to hear about fiscal or social conservitisim is silly.

No, only extremists want to hear about it. The general population dismisses it as idiotic.

The reason Romney was defeated is simple. The majority of the US Electorate is ignorant.

The reason why Romney lost is because he tried to sell a message that the US Electorate was too intelligent to buy.

How else to explain the fact that people will vote for a man who has presided over a TRILLION DOLLAR per year deficit spending?

Another one who doesn't understand context and percentages. Real numbers are irrelevant.

How else to explain that a majority of people will vote for a man who for the last year plus of his presidency has not led at all, but campaigned for re-election?

ALL Presidents do this.

How else to explain that the majority voted for a man who has been the most socialistic President in history? Who has no real plan to re-invigorate the economy? Who champions "Fair Share" economics?

Because the prefer that to extreme conservatism, because you are incorrect about that, and because that is what the population would like to see. Real simple.

No, people voted for Obama because they preferred him over the alternative of social and fiscal conservatism... tyranny. A wise choice.

The reason Republicans lost is because they yet again nominated someone who wasnt a consistent conservative. 50.3 % of the vote is hardly an mandate for liberals.

I read your post; a two-way slam. Social and fiscal. And you say look at the big picture... the big picture is:

8% unemployment.
6 TRILLION blown.
An economic illiterate in the White House and a nitwit in the hole.

But for you it's abortion, and some hurt feelings about a system that foments a parasitic mentality; one where the government is their conduit to theft.
Hey CC... how's your ObamaPhone?

It's somewhat true, but nothing like McCain. Romney had the experience where we needed it most; the abaility to start straightening out our fiscal mess. We've elected an economic illiterate who is bathed in Marx. It's like sending our troops to war with firecrackers.

Then we have his idiotic notion of unilateral disarmament.

What a brilliant choice.

The Chinese must be howling.

The big picture is:
Unemployment down
Deficit in context and percentages not as bad as the extreme conservatives make it out to be.
A far better economist in the white house than what would have been if the conservatives were in charge.

But for you it's abortion, and some hurt feelings about a system that foments a parasitic mentality; one where the government is their conduit to theft.

This is you strawmanning because you've got nothing.

Hey CC... how's your ObamaPhone?

Good to see you still speak in idiotic talking points with no substance at all. Haven't you learned ANYTHING over the years?

Youre now probably looking at another 12 years of democratic rule. Barring force majeur, the USA economy will likely be better than today in 4 years time, irrespective of whether romney or obama had won, and thus obama can end his 8 years in the history books as the guy who cleaned up after Bush; this will leave hillary in a very strong stating point to take over.

Well said, the image of a very rich polished stiff script reader is disaster and Ryan we learned read from a script only as well.
The "youth vote" to me is not the "informed" vote as it was previously. They appear to be more emotional than rational.
Educated voters if you consider the the university types have been liberal longer than the 50's in America.
I agree some things that were said recently like the hideous rape comment referring tit as the will of God goes back to the 1880's.
Consider Obama's baggage as he now stands the winner; the deficit, joblessness, Bengazi murders, Obama care, winless wars in the middle east, Iran, Mexican borders, immigration, China, Russia. "The American People"-who are they today? Why would any candidate recruit a former impeached president to speak in his bealf when that impeached president's wife HATES Obama. It is a new and asleep at the wheel America. Issues are not the focal point any longer and that is poison no matter what country we speak of.

There are dozens of reasons why Romney lost. The biggest reason is because the Republican party is broken. It has nothing to do with color of skin, but ideology. I've been saying this for months.

The Republican party nominated a freakin' joke for a candidate (and knew it) then thought they could *force* people to fall in love with Romney. It didn't work.
