I think Obama should appoint Romney and Bill Clinton to head a bipartisan economic/balanced budget team to come up with a plan. Not impressed with leadership in Congress from either party, hope both parties will choose smart, practical leadership that are more moderate problem solvers. So many things that need to get done that there should be bipartsan support for. For instance on immigration policy, why not allow the international students that come to U.S. universities and get their advanced degrees easy citizenship if they want to stay. Ton of stuff like that in which both sides should have enough support to pass.

wont work anyway, the teaparty are radicals and they control the house and have proven for 2 years that they will not negotiate it's the teaparty way or the gridlocked way. but i like your idea, in theory, despite it being extremely unlikely as i said.

I know exactly how my father would have answered this "Ah the notion of bi-partisan politics, where both sides can sit down together and come up with a plan that satisfies neither."

not gonna happen.... sorry.

it won't be Obamas fault though.. he'll still look at cameras and pretend he wants bipartisanship and such.
nah, the real "culprit" has been, and will remain to be, Harry Reid... if it is not the Democratic party position, Harry won't let it pass or even get a debate on it.

Disagree.. if anything it will be the fault of the Tea Party radicals in the House. They dont understand the word compromise. All Harry Reid has been doing is blocking crap coming from the Tea Party... basically taking a bit of veto workload off Obama's shoulders.

Even before we knew the result yesterday, Cantor was on Bloomberg saying he would not compromise... come on..

Romney is done. He did not have the backing of his party and since he has lost, then he is damaged goods. Ryan might be an alternative.

As for Clinton... the GOP far right hates the guy, and would rather eat their own arm and foot with **** sauce than work with Bill Clinton.

While it would be good for some bi-partisan fixing of the US, I just dont see it as long as the Tea Party radicals are in defacto control of the house. Now if the non Tea Party GOPers jump ship and join the Dems in figuring out the problems... then that would go a long way... but as it stands now, a minority of the House has the whole country by the balls.

no doubt Republicans share in the blame for not compromising...Harry holds the key to the Senate though.. he's the one man that dictates what gets done and what doesn't and he has made it clear the GOP interests will not be served in the Senate whatsoever.
Harry blocks anything coming from the GOP (House or Senate).. whether they are Tea Partiers or not.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but it's not Harry's job to work for the President... hell, i'm not sure Harry is even aware of that.

as long as the definition of bipartisanship remains to be " reject your party's position and adopt my party's position"... you'll see gridlock ... and deservedly so.

If even a single "Republican" crosses the aisle to help the Democrats in the next 2-4 years that would likely be the straw which ensures I could never again vote for ANY Republican. It's time for that party to step up and decide if they want to be a CONSERVATIVE ALTERNATIVE to the Democratic Party or if they simply want to be the Moderate Wing of the Democratic Party.

The late night statement from Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell clearly told the nation that he had not changed from his number one priority of four years ago.

I think the tooth fairy should bring me a couple of grand for the crown the dentist had to grind off the other day too!

Why would Romney accept an appointment from Obama? I have worked for idiots before, it isn't much fun. You give them your best advice, and they go against it. The last one finally got fired, but not until he had done a lot of damage to the company.
I warned him several times that he needed to lighten up, that there were people gunning for him.
Ever watch The Office? Sorry, the crap that goes on there is NOT funny. Petty office politics has the effect of running good people off.

The tragedy of Obama's win is that he doesn't have both houses like he did last time he won. He had a chance then to make historic progress, and failed. The GOP will not likely give him that same opportunity again. Stand by for at least 2 more years of gridlock.

were you expecting him to tell the nation he is now supportive of the Presidents agenda?

This notion that the Tea-Party is the problem is a complete joke. Obama is the problem. He has no notion of compromise. Let's remember that compromise is not getting everything you want and giving up nothing. It's also not giving up everything you believe in.

This next four years is going to be hell in the US. The electorate of this country just reinforced the idea that not only are they ignorant, they are self serving and care not about the nation or the future of their children and grand-children, all they care about is "where is mine". We have gone from the Greatest Generation to the Worst Generation Possible. It's sad.

Obama already went that route with Simpson/Bowles. How did THAT work out?

Don't want moderate problem solvers thanks.
I want to see someone ready to knuckle down and halt this Commi-Lib and their party.

Nothing good comes from the type of Socialism the modern SAP party promotes.
Look at Europe. That's us. Up to our eyes in debt... and just wait when the dollar isn't the currency of choice for world trade...

Then the bottom is going to fall out faster than you can say BroncObama... and the Chinese... you can bet they're licking their chops right now.

I don't know about the worst, but I agree with the bolded part. My answer to "where is mine" is that it is out there somewhere, go and find it. But too many want it gift wrapped and delivered.

From the BBC last night, discussing the Chinese view (excuse me if Im not word perfect but its from memory)

"Yes, the [Chinese] government sources Ive talked to have said they favor Obama as they said he'd be easier to bully on certain issues"

It was further clarified that the word "bully" was actually used by the Chinese, & it wasnt the reporters interpretation of the position.

Make of that what you will but it does seem to imply at least some Chinese will be licking their chops this morning.

Wont happen. People voted for the status quo, which is 4 more years of partisan games and negative politics.

Then push for Congress to pass a bipartisan budget.

I'm tired of the people expecting the President to be able to do everything. That will turn the office from one of an executive to one of an elected dictator.

Yes, because Romney would be such a drastic change from that.

So would I if I were hostile to the US; no greater gift could be bestowed than to have the equivalent of a mole in the WH.

Yes, because Romney would be such a drastic change from that.

At least he would have come with a basic understanding of economics and the role of American power.

Which would likely be wrong.

Isn't it free-market Republicans who advocated free trade with China that allowed them to rise as an economic powerhouse in the first place?
