Is this what a voting booth should look like?

I have no problem with them having the mural...I understand that many people/communities view Obama as a civil rights leader instead of merely a politician, and that's fine. What I object to is that they're displaying it during the election. It should be covered up with a canvas for the duration of the voting.

He is the PRESIDENT of the United States. There was a time in this country where people actually respected the office and the President despite their political affiliation. God forbid that schools ever consider the President as a role model and have a photo or a mural....seriously.

It was illegal and absolutely worth making an argument over. Evidently a judge agrees and ordered it covered.

I'm not talking about the picture of Obama, I was talking about the people standing out in front of my polling place this morning.

No, I completely ignored them.

What they were doing was technically legal, and it wasn't worth getting into an argument over.

Either it was legal, or illegal. If it was illegal and you didn't speak up, you're part of the problem.

Like "under god" in the pledge or "in god we trust" on our coins.

I don't have a big issue with either and yes....I think people that make a huge deal about that are in the same vein.

That was before the Libbos showed up on the scene.

You would just shrug your shoulders if it were a Romney mural? No big deal right?

If, God Forbid, Romney were to become President and a school had a photo of him or a mural.....then yes, I would say what is the big ****ing deal?

Like I said, it's fine for 364 days of the year. But cover it up on Election Day if the site is being used as a polling place.

No.....I'm not saying either side is to blame....but there is a serious problem when people get so up in arms over petty stuff like this.

I just think its sad that we would have to cover up a mural of our President so as to not offend someone.

Like I said, I'm fairly certain it was legal. They were probably more than 100 feet from the door (I didn't measure). But the way it was set up, you pretty much had to walk past them coming in from the parking lot. I just thought it was in poor taste.

My voting place was a Presbyterian church with big crosses and Jesus everywhere.

It's a good thing Jesus isn't on the ballot then.

Edit: I didn't see that TGND posted essentially the same thing. Great minds think alike :)

Technically, President Obama cannot be considered a Historic President while still in office.

It should have been covered. It qualifies not only as a type of persuation, but also as a form of intimidation.

LOL....I seriously question the mental state of anyone who would be intimidated by a mural.

Like I said....as a liberal....I would probably vote him if he was. I support most leftist marxist types.

That's nice, but still not comparable to having an image and quote from the sitting president right behind the voting booths. It's not appropriate regardless of who it is.

Perhaps the same people who are intimidated by the invisible man.

I just think its not a big deal.....and I would say the same thing if it were a Republican. I think people try to make issues over stuff that is really petty and to me...this is just downright silly.

Is it or is it not illegal?

And why do you suppose that is?

God forbid if we allow a school to have a photo of our President or a mural of our President. Man....what is this country coming to?

God forbid you deal with my comments rather than a straw man

Again...you don't see the difference between an exposed picture of the president in a school, and one immediately behind polling stations?

Not a big deal? It's probably illegal. It's a mural of the sitting president with a quote by him right behind the polling stations. It's completely inappropriate.

If I can't walk in wearing a <insert candidate name> shirt on in a polling station, then you can't have a picture of <insert candidate name> on the wall.

Republican officials have already been ejected from polling stations in Phili and had to get a court order to let them back in. It's not about this picture, it's about the people who allowed the picture and everything else they do.

Its just silly. People will look for any reason to make something out of nothing. There are so many more important things to worry about than this. Does anyone believe that a mural is going to cause someone to change their vote or be afraid to walk inside to cast a ballot? Seriously? I would think a polling place in a church would have a much more chilling effect on people....but even THAT would be a silly thing to get one's panties in a bunch about.

It's not stupid, it's the law.

It is pretty irrelevant - however, there is a law against it so the law should be enforced.

The problem with allowing inconsequential illegal activities is that once that one becomes the norm, the next level up becomes the new incremental (inconsequential) step, and soon the thing would progress to serious politicing all the way into the voting booth.

Same reason the penalty for being off-sides is the same regardless of whether it was by an inch or 3 yards deep into the other team's backfield.

Enforce the danged law.

How about a woman being truned away from the polling place because she was wearing a M.I.T. shirt. They said it was an endorsement of 'Mitt' and could not be allowed inside the polling place.

Public education on display.
