Pro life peaceful protester dragged off by cops at Obama rally

There's another thread around here somewhere where left wingers were defended for shouting down Alan West (I think, been awhile), even claiming it was West that was infringing on the protesters right to free speech. In light of that discussion, I'll be interested in watching the comments to this thread.

Hecklers interrupt Obama's Cincinnati rally - First Read

I cant watch the vid at work so I went to another site to read about it. Although I dont generally approve of limiting someone's speech, there has to be some limit or political meetings and etc could be come impossible. They can speak but at somepoint the disruption must stop. No matter which side.

The problem is the video did not pick up the sound of the heckler, so it's difficult to tell how loud he was being. Obviously, he was loud enough for the whole convention center to turn their attention on to him. The people at that rally went to hear Obama, the guy was disruptive and removing him was a reasonable thing to do, IMO. I am pro-life btw.

Protestors are often dragged away from cops even when they don't deserve it. Did you stand up for Occupy Wallstreet? Or is your defense of our right to speech and protest subjective?

The OWS protestors closed down roads, left garbage everywhere, defacated and urinated in public places, and tried to block access to Wall Street, among other places.

How does that compare to this situation?

So it's subjective. I was just seeing if you're actually committed to freedom and liberty and all the repercussions it brings, or if you just select out only that which is advantageous for your side. Now I know. Thanks.

People were dragged away who did absolutely none of those things. I guess in your world people are guilty of crimes committed by others.

You didn't answer the question.

OMG, it's another "We're more persecuted than you" thread.....

Facts are not your friend, Deuce.

The police arrested 185 people on Monday as protesters tried to block access to the New York Stock Exchange on the first anniversary of the Occupy Wall Street protests.

I think it is more important to note that the OWS protesters did this in the tradition of civil disobedience. And they did it most likely because they felt a moral obligation to, because of crimes committed by wall street and washington dc.

So really its a moot point to say that 'oh, they were arrested for blocking the street. Therefore, their protest is invalid' because it's not and that is the whole point.

I was there at that protest and I saw police beat people when they were walking on the sidewalk for no apparent reason. Arrest people out of the blue on the sidewalk. I was on the sidewalk the whole time, and I saw almost fifteen different people get arrested including two of my friends, none of whom were breaking any laws as far as I could see.

As for the video, I couldn't watch it because the chants from Obama zombies makes me want to puke.

You didn't answer the question.

I did. You didn't like the answer. Freedom has consequences and repercussions. You either live by that, or you try to subvert freedom.

Do not confuse anecdotes with facts.

So the NY Times was lying when they said that they were arrested for trying to block Wall Street...you know, one of those things you said never happened. Gotcha.

Don't know about lying. But maybe not telling the whole story? Quite possible. There is a difference and times between what the police say the people were arrested for and why they were actually arrested.

How did this turn into an OWS thread?

The guy got booted because he was being an obnoxious ass. Being an idiot and getting arrested is generally a really bad way to get your message out but for some reason some folks take to the process like flies to a flame. Congratulations buddy, you took a perfectly good message and managed to get it lumped in with the likes of Medea Benjamin.

I was actually there that day, and I witnessed fifteen arrests and none of them were doing anything illegal. Most of them were on the sidewalk at the time of their arrest. A small portion did get arrested for attempting to blockade the NYSE, but I didn't see them because there were thousands of people. NYT only reported about 500 I think.
