This is really ourageous. I guess it shows that the democrats will do anything to steal this election.

Claims increase of machines switching votes in Ohio, other battlegrounds | Fox News

Imagine going to vote for your presidential candidate and pushing the button on a touch-screen voting machine -- but the "X" marks his opponent instead.
That is what some voters in Nevada, North Carolina, Texas and Ohio have reported.
Fox News has received several complaints from voters who say they voted on touch-screen voting machines -- only when they tried to select Mitt Romney, the machine indicated they had chosen President Obama. The voters in question realized the error and were able to cast ballots for their actual choice.
"I don't know if it happened to anybody else or not, but this is the first time in all the years that we voted that this has ever happened to me," said Marion, Ohio, voter Joan Stevens.
Stevens said that when she voted, it took her three tries before the machine accepted her choice to vote for Romney.
"I went to vote and I got right in the middle of Romney's name," Stevens told Fox News, saying that she was certain to put her finger directly on her choice for the White House.
She said that the first time she pushed "Romney," the machine marked "Obama."
So she pushed Romney again. Obama came up again. Then it happened a third time.
"Maybe you make a mistake once, but not three times," she told Fox-in-ohio

It is ironic that it is the conservatives that are complaining. When it happened in 2004 and 2008 to the Democratic candidates.. then it was nothing according to the GOP and its backers at the time.

But this time around, the makers of the machines in many cases are (still) owned by known GOP backers.. if not the family of the GOP candidate, and it is happening in states that are (still) run by the GOP.. irony....

The reverso meme: Romney's son owns the company that provided the voting machines used in Ohio and there are indications that he plans to commit fraud. So the rightwing noise machine claims Obama is committing fraud.

Projection? The OP is soaking in it!

Isn't there a more concrete way to prove this if it is actually happening vs hearsay?

The fact that our country does not have a secure system of voting is appalling to me. And it should be to every voter in the United States.

I've seen that happen with touch screens myself -- not in the voting booth, but in other applications. It's completely believable. And it doesn't have to be fraud.

Some lady says... means nothing. If you were to rig a machine... why on earth would you have it visually show the user that it picked the other candidate. You would just add the value to Obama's tally instead of Romney's while showing the user they voted for Romney, that way nobody would notice a thing. The only other technical explanation would be a glitch in the mapping of the touch coordinates / screen coordinates to the graphic hit area... which would be extremely unlikely and a laughable failure of coding.

I'm very unimpressed with the accuracy of my Galaxy S3's touch screen, so yeah, there is always that possibility. I've even used computer monitors where the touch screen goes wonky and offsets my touch by a particular amount vertically or horizontally.

As for our election process, it's pretty secure. Nothing is 100% secure. My proof? Actual voter fraud is astonishingly rare. Way, way less than the GOP is trying to tell you these days. The fraud that does occur? Most of it is with absentee ballots. Funny how the GOP hasn't focused on the worst offenders...

This happens on slot machines with touch screens all the time. I know. I'm an expert. Ha! You keep selecting one choice in a special feature game and it won't "pick." Three or four times. Then it will pick a random choice where the least coins are awarded. Happens all the time. Nice to know, from your last sentence, that it's actual cheating.

I've programmed tablets, they are accurate down to the pixel, don't know what piece of crap touch screens are out there though, lol.

In similar news, claims increase of my dad's phone calling people by itself. "In my opinion, he is forgetting to use the lock function," said my dad's friend. Yaa likely story if you catch my drift. This is really outrageous. I guess my dad's phone will do anything to call his friends while hiding in the dark shadows of his pocket.

Isn't there a more concrete way to prove this if it is actually happening vs hearsay?

You mean like looking at the machine in question and examining it, then seeing if they can recreate the reported experiences in order to determine if it was simply user error?

I guess they can do that with little to no effort, but that would ruin a perfectly good conspiracy.

I'm tired of this argument. "Pretty secure" isn't good enough. It wouldn't be for SECNAV; it wouldn't be for our emergency alert broadcasting system; and it's not for me.

surely there must be some kind of audit trail on these machines?

and yes, offset the touch by a mm or so and you can get a different result than intended, which is a much more likely explanation than fraud, especially since it appears on the screen. If somebody went to the trouble of writing code to switch votes, you'd think they wouldn't display their handywork for the voter to see especially because it would be so easy not to.

I am wondering if it is somehow because Obama was in that position on the machine last time of if it is because of an issue with screen as opposed to the software.

Florida spent millions of dollars on electronic voting machines ... and now we're back to paper ballots. It took me 2 1/2 hrs. to vote today, which is absurd. Of course our governor and the Republicans have done everything they can to restrict early voting....

This is absurd. We should be able to vote over the internet. Request an internet ballot and they mail you a unique ID number to log in to a secure server. How hard can it ****in be when every two-bit retailer in the world manages to pull it off?

Call VISA. They could build one in a week.

What indications?

NPR debunked the Tagg Romney story today. i guess now both sides are running with the "the machines are stealing our votes" conspiracy theories.

Helix sez : if it sounds like a conspiracy theory, it probably is.

If you have never had an issue with a touchscreen, then you must not get out much honestly. The best safest method are the scan paper cards that are machine counted that can be hand-counted if necessary.

Well, maybe it's a little like starting a thread on your outrage for all the people killed by benign prostatic hyperplasia last year. Sure, it's a problem for some people, except that it's the smallest cause of death in the United States period. Though I can guarantee that if a candidate could use that somehow to get himself more votes, benign prostatic hyperplasis would dominate the new cycle 24/7. You know, like all that voting fraud.

Of the 50 MILLION UNWANTED or UNAFFORDED, 10,000,000 May have joined 2,000,000 already in PRISON.
Multpling our costs by 6 and clogging the courts, prisons, and other welfare resources.
THANKS BUT WE CAN'T AFFORD THAT.

FEDERALLY FUNDED ABORTON IS THE BEST INVESTMENT THIS COUNTRY HAS EVER MADE... BY A FACTOR OF 10 OR EVEN 100.
There's nothing else even close.
WHERE A $1000 PROCEDURE CAN SAVE A $ MILLION IN WELFARE, FOOD STAMPS, PRISON, ETC.

Awesome. That would mean that there are no more orphanages and no foster homes. They are all adopted and there's a waiting list.

And now back to reality land.
