Obama's offensive comment

You sound much more mentally competent than many others do around here. So, why do you think you're mentally ill if you're perfectly behaved?

Obama said something during his second debate that offended me. He said that guns should be kept out of the hands of the mentally ill. That comment suggested that every mentally ill person is capable of violence and that isn't true.

I'm mentally ill and I'm not violent. I've never committed a crime. I've never even gotten a jay walking ticket. My mom is also mentally ill and she's not violent either. She's one of the sweetest people alive. The majority of the mentally ill are harmless.

Yes, it's true that some mentally ill people are violent and those who show any signs of violent behavior shouldn't be allowed to own guns. But Obama didn't say that guns should be kept out of the hands of certain mentally ill people. He said that they should be kept out of the hands of all mentally ill people.

Obama obviously thinks that mentally ill people are dangerous. That's prejudice. Let me give you an example. Some women kill people with guns. Would it be fair if I said that because some women are violent that guns should be kept out of the hands of all women? Of course it wouldn't be fair. That would be prejudice. And saying that guns should be kept out of the hands of the mentally ill is just as prejudice.

Obama was trying to gain more votes with his second debate but he lost one. And if he offended other mentally ill people, he may lose more.

he did express himself clumsily there. He tried to rephrase it the second time, but didnt know how to describe it.

You my friend are the very definition of extremist...

I suppose perhaps by the definition of the word in the DNC Dictionary. By not even close by the definition the real world uses. But thanks for trying.

Chopping my posts again so as to not have to face the rest of my post. I'm seeing a trend. Why would a self declared non-extremist go to such extremes? meh... it doesn't matter. I'm rather positive that I'm not the only one whose got your number.

You should see a doctor about those delusions... Funny though, as it all falls right in line with your original 'he didn't say that!' nonsense.

If you want people to quote and respond to all you say, you must ensure all you say has actual meaning. Work at it, some day you might figure it out.

We've all heard the horrors associated with mental illness during the first half of the 20th century. Back then, any family member could have you condemned to an institution that was nothing short of a torture chamber. Electric shocks and lobotomies were common place as were straight-jackets and padded cells. This was all done out of the public eye, behind locked doors.

A few people blew their whistles and it all came to light. Reforms were immediately administered. The ugly truth put quite a stigma upon the mental health community.

Today, the only way to become institutionalized is to admit yourself (having the financial ability to pay), or be admitted by the courts.

In order to quash the atrocities of the past, many mentally ill people are allowed to live out their lives in public. This is good. The violent are still institutionalized by the courts and the mild are left alone.

The problems are simply the individuals that are committing their first violent acts. Sane people are quite capable of doing the same thing.

Stop looking for something to get offended over. You may want to talk to someone about that.
