More Al Qaeda Connections in Benghazi | The Weekly Standard

The Benghazi story continues to evolve. CNN reports that multiple al Qaeda franchises, and others with al Qaeda links, are suspected of taking part in the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate.

The lead sentence from a new CNN.com piece (“US Intel believes some Benghazi attackers tied to al Qaeda in Iraq”) reads: “U.S. intelligence believes that assailants connected to al Qaeda in Iraq were among the core group that attacked the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, a U.S. government official told CNN.”

The al Qaeda in Iraq terrorists reportedly joined others from al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, a local militia named Ansar al Sharia that has suspected al Qaeda ties, and an Egyptian jihadist network that also reportedly has direct ties to al Qaeda’s senior leaders.

While the story is still being pieced together, the overall picture is becoming clearer: The more one investigates the attack in Benghazi, the more al Qaeda ties one finds.

How many seperate Benghazi threads are you going to make?

Hmm, perhaps we should wait for the investigation to conclude rather than pooping our pampers every time a new tidbit is leaked to the media.

Yeah terrorists connections are an inconvenient truth before the election aren't they? Perhaps if it read "It was really about some youtube nobody ever heard of" it would be poop worthy as is most of the apologist talking points trying to cover up the cause and distract from the death of Americans.

The most damning part of the investigation is already concluded. The consulate asked for more protection at least twice in the past year and was denied. And you've already read my rhyme: Requests denied = People died.

That depends. How many more lies are your puppetmasters going to tell?

Agreed. Whether it was extremists that joined a protest, or a well planned attack by militants without a protest, or a hastily organized attack by militants ... only impacts the search for the culprits.

Not as many as yours have apparently told you!

Ok... so we are to expect a new thread with every new trumped up Fox News segment. Great.

It goes well beyond that.

The most likely incentive for this attack was the killing of Abu Yahya al Libi. It's also fairly reasonable to assume that there was a plan in place to arm various Libyan factions that were trying to get al Quaeda out of the nation. If you're al Quaeda and you're feeling threatened then the sensible thing is to attack. If you are US State Department you should have people in place that are smart enough to have this kind of thing sorted out and planned for.....unless you're trying to mollify the Muslim Brotherhood leadership of the nation.

Again and again and again it happens...our leadership picks up a snake because it's pleading for water and again and again and again it gets bit.

Thank you for your completely unsupported speculation. Why are we even investigating, since you've already got it all figured out?

Amen!.....this is where the fault lies and to keep looking for something else or someone else to blame is solving what?....is it preventing this from happening again?....cause and resolution are imperative to ensuring this does not happen again....and even that is no guaranteee since we clearly have no control over the ones who commit these acts of terror....blame does nothing to help this tragedy.....Obama stood on stage in the middle of a debate and stated he is responsible.....this happened on his watch....what more do people want...a signed confession?

Well, I'm sure that eventually someone will write a story on the incident that you'll like and then we'll all know the "truth" because you approve of it. As for me, I just go by the evidence that has come out and some common sense speculation. Hell, even Wikipedia has information that "contractors" are working throughout Libya and it's not a gigantic leap of logic to surmise that protection of oil assets isn't the only thing that they're doing.

In what way does this prove it was not connected to the video? Did Al Qaeda and Ansar al-Sharia enjoy "The Innocence of Muslims" or something?

Perhaps because you're reading the Weekly Standard you don't know that the claim is no longer that it was just about the video.

Maybe but may not. We have to be able to show those requests would have actually saved lives.

Who are you? The Lamestream Media representative here at DP?

Who am I? I'm someone who is just sick of spam. Perhaps we could get a new forum on the site for Benghazi like we did for the Trayvon Martin case. It's a single topic. Yet every time Brett Bair farts we have to have a new thread about Benghazi that states absolutely nothing new.

According to military protocol, because this was a Flash Cable about a "missing" US Ambassador, the POTUS would have to make the call. Understand something, a US Ambassador has a priority equal to 4 stars. Meaning, that if a Flash Cable comes to the White House situation room about a "missing" US Ambassador, a LIVE PERSON must WALK the information to the highest person nearest the President, and verify delivery. So there's no way Obama didn't know about this attack right away.

Also, records show that Obama had an Oval Office meeting just 50 minutes into the attack with Leon Panetta and Hillary Clinton. The decision would have been made, or in this case, not made, in that meeting. You have the 3 Principles in the room. You have the POTUS, you have the Sec. of State, and you have the Sec. of Defense all in the same room together just 50 minutes after the attack started in Benghazi.

Now, what do you think they were discussing? Halloween costumes?

Flash Cables aren't emails. They are like IM's directly to the situation room in the White House and relating Operation Posts for the geographical area. There's no way to argue that Obama didn't know what was happening, because it involved a 4 star level US Ambassador. The Cables, by protocol, must be WALKED IN PERSON to the POTUS directly, or the highest person nearest the POTUS, and a confirmation of delivery MUST be posted. In short, there is a system in place for situations like this to ensure that the POTUS is informed as quickly as possible.

The story being advanced by many in the administration, including Joe Biden himself, is that Obama wasn't told anything. Remember when Biden said in the VP debate, "we weren't told anything", and "we didn't know anything"? Remember when he said that? That's a lie outright.

Time to face the music liberals, your boy is cooked.
