Picture yourself in a compound with fortified walls, with nothing inside to stop mobs from breeching these walls. People outside want to get inside to kill you and everyone else there. Prior knowledge says security personnel is needed. But because an armed presence would not look good politically the one man who could provide the protection says no. During an attack that lasted for hours, help is only an hour away, but it is not sent. The mob breeches the walls and drag you and three others out. You are sodomized and them beaten to death. The other three meet the same fate. Help never comes. This is clearly a terrorist attack upon the sovern territory of the United States. The hosting country sends no help either. You were the ambassador representing the United States. You were deserted and left to die in the name of politics. The man who could have saved your life is the President of the United States, Barrack Obama, and he left you to die. It astounds me that half the country supports this man, President Barrack Obama. The same President that still has not been vetted as to his background. No college records, no passport records, no immigration records, nothing. He has spent millions to hide these records and keep them secret. The same man who gains access to his opponents records and use those records to embarass his opponent. The United States cannot survive another term under this President. If he is re-elected the country deserves whatever it gets. Knowing he told the Rissians he will be more flexible in his next term because he won't be running for election again. And no one asks what he meant by his comment.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace

You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

who would John Lennon vote for?

If I remember correctly John Lennon was not a U.S. citizen, therefore he couldn't vote for any one in this election!

I don't blame President Obama for these deaths. Oh, okay, maybe using The Buck Stops Here Doctrine he is; but he made no decisions that resulted in these deaths. Neither his actions, nor lack of action, caused this to happen or exacerbate it in any way.

HOWEVER, it happened. I hope the Congressional hearings on this matter root out those directly responsible and fire their asses. Starting with Hillary Clinton. I predict that she will resign after the election, however.

Further, I think Libya should pay a price for this travesty. They did nothing. They fiddled; Rome burned.

We shouldn't rebuild this consulate; if we have any diplomatic people in Libya, they should be pulled out. And Libya's foreign aid should be halved. We really do need to send a message to the world: you **** with our embassies? You allow others within your country to **** with our embassies? You lose.

Edit: Oh, and to those who would say, "Maggie, it's much too complicated to retaliate in that way," Maggie says, STFU.

Explain to me why I should make a decision about women's reproductive rights and equal rights for gays to marry based on the death of an ambassador.

It wasn't all of Libya that enacted in the attack. The ambassador in Libya had many supporters as well, after all.

I admit that I haven't been following the story very closely, but I think that the only reason we should have for pulling an embassy out of a country is if we have declared war on them.

We should maintain a diplomatic presence in Libya, especially considering how they are rebuilding their government following their revolution. We want to be in on this.

To do otherwise would be to cut of a channel to the government and, more importantly, people of Libya on how the people of the United States view them and their country. It would also allow Libya to be influenced more by geopolitcal rivals of the United States, such as Russia and China.

You missed my edit, didn't you? :rofl

he's dead. so obviously he could not vote in anyone's election

i suppose you also argue with each wearer of the WWJD bracelet for the same reason

Agreed. But his refusal to acknowledge the truth about the attack, and his subsequent lies to cover his backside, are contemptible.

Also agreed. It's been said that Hillary has been planning to resign for some time; some say it is because she has her eye on the 2016 race, and knows it would sink her chances to have been part of the Obama second term disaster.

I'm not so sure about this part. Libya is in chaos and doesn't yet have a government capable of exercising control of the country. Imo a better course would be for the administration to recognize that declaring "al Qaeda is on the run" is a myth and that overthrowing the old regime is only the beginning; there is a lot of work that must go into creating the new regime. We won our own revolution in 1781 but we didn't have a constitution until 1787, and it would be unreasonable for Libya to make that transition in just a few months. Meanwhile we have to defend our representatives in the region, and the administration failed miserably at that.

And yes, Maggie, I missed the edit too. :)

I did. :tongue4:

Now, granted, I do think we should hold someone responsible. But I don't know the details of who provides security. Such things can be quite complicated.

For example, the Marine Corps usually provides security for the physical compound of U.S. embassies. However, the persons of ambassadors and diplomatic personnel are protected by the Diplomatic Security Service. And then there is security provided by the host countries.

And instead of cutting aid to Libya, I think we should spend the same amount, but that the U.S. should directly provide it to the Libyan people rather than it's government. That will also decrease on corruption in the Libyan government who personally profit from that foreign aid.
