Obama dug himself a massive hole in debate #1. He's stayed there... right where he belongs.

Video: CBS focus group in Ohio picks Romney the winner « Hot Air

Charlie Rose and Norah O’Donnell seem a little surprised by the results of this focus group conducted by CBS during last night’s debate, a group that consists of eight undecided voters in Ohio — a critical swing state for both Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Conventional wisdom and spot polls showed Obama winning a narrow victory over Romney in last night’s debate, but that’s not how CBS’ independents saw it:

I suppose the Obama gameplan was to portray Romney as another George W. Bush, and Romney defused that by declaring, “we can’t kill our way out of this problem.” Not the argument you’re used to seeing from a Republican against a Democrat.

Obama’s near-explosion — “bayonets and horses… this isn’t Battleship” will stand out. Boy, was president Obama snippy and sneering during that answer. Obama couldn’t contain his disdain and contempt for Romney in any of these debates, and it really flared tonight.

Chris Wallace just said that a Marine wrote him, “the Marines still use bayonets.”

Chris Matthews is elated though. Tingles shrieked after the first debate that if Obama tuned into his program every evening he'd teach him how to debate. And watching what happened maybe BO did. LOL

My comment has to do with Obama's disdain and contempt for Romney. I doubt that.

It must be very difficult for a sitting president to get into a heated debate. He's not used to that at all. He's treated with the utmost respect every second of every day. Complete and total deference . . . in body language, tone and words. Well, except possibly by his wife, children and mother-in-law. Ha!

Not only is he treated that way, but as the President of the United States, he is required to present himself in such a way as to command that kind of undying respect.

The debates change all that for a sitting president. He's required to change his leadership attitudes, put his crown to the side and fully engage. I imagine it must be difficult.

I would bet he has absolutely nothing against Mitt Romney. It's just the games people play in politics.

I agree with some of what you say, but disagree with the last line. Obama is a product of Communists and he disdains folks like Romney. He let that be known during his four years at the helm. Like a communist, he has been hostile to business and wealth creators. It shows in our economy.

Obama has had his entire life cleared and paved for him. This is the first instance (these debates) where he has been taken on. Where he has a record he cannot run from and has had to defend it. (The journ-O-lists surely haven't forced his hand).

I recall Professor John Lott speaking about Obama when he was a guest lecturer, and he said you just couldn't engage him. I wish I had the audio (2007) because it was more than illuminating.

"Comm-Lib journ-O-lists" Seriously? Multiple neologisms are a sure indicator of extremist diatribe.

These are both two men who are not accustomed to be questioned. They are at the top of thier individual pecking orders and so they expect to be obeyed. i personally don't think they give a crap about each other one way or the other. but I think Romney overall is abit more touchy than Obama.

Perhaps. I don't notice it. Last night as I watched the debate (and the last two, for that matter), I was very proud that our country was choosing between these two powerhouses. They are both highly intelligent men. I think both of them handled themselves better than anyone expected. It gave me chills to see these two titans go at each other . . . especially in Debate #2.
