World opinions on the US elections

It seems to me that, if we really want our influence to be felt abroad, the way other nations perceive our leader is rather important. If, on the other hand, we don't give a crap what other nations think of us, maybe we're not ready to lead.

Why do we even want to lead?

I don't really care. when you are the major military and economic superpower you are going to be a leader no matter what. What I get tired of is lefties who want America to be less important and more like Eurosocialist has been states, demanding our president be popular with the countries we do not want to emulate

Citizens of a nation that wants to be a world leader among nations.

We will either be a world leader among nations or not by our actions...not by a popularity contest conducted in those other nations.

Power does not equal respect, and it is not possible to lead, or even have much influence, without respect.

If the American president is popular in other countries, doesn't that say a lot about his foreign policy?

In a world where 'popularity' matters more than substance, nope.
