Romney promises no abortion legislation [W:110]

I think he is like all politicians, he knows he has to say certain things to one group and other things to another, and hopes they don't talk to each other, or find a way to excuse it.

but going by his past, he doesn't seem much the social conservative

I agree. But I think he had to move that way in the primaries.

certainly. I'm just pointing out the fear of him being some social conservative is a bit silly. As I said earlier, liberals should be focusing on his economic policy, not what everyone should recognize as pointless political pandering

I agree. However, I think this will disappoint social conservatives he had to court. And this is the problem with our system and why all presidents are doomed to be unpopular in the end.

Romney promises no abortion legislation - Yahoo! News

Wading into an explosive social issue, Republican Mitt Romney on Tuesday said he would not pursue any abortion-related legislation if elected president.
"There's no legislation with regards to abortion that I'm familiar with that would become part of my agenda," ....As both campaigns court female voters, Obama's campaign has featured Romney's opposition to abortion in television ads running in several swing states.

Romney has no shame. How can you trust anything that comes out of this man's mouth?

he will say anything to win.

Any phrase that begins with "Romney Promises....." should end in a rim shot. That's how serious his promises are.

"Hey Romney promises no abortion legislation!" Ba dum ch...

This has been a B.S. issue from both sides for decades. Of course there will never be legislation on this issue.

Making an issue out of this just shows how desperate the Obama supporters are to try and move the debate about the real issue, the economy and perhaps why the administration lied about what happened in Libya.

Say what you will about Romney, and please don't say he's a man who puts principle ahead of political expediency, the man is intelligent and this particular bit of crrings hollow.

I'm as adamantly anti-abortion as anyone, and I don't favor the president pushing legislation regarding abortion. The whole reason Roe v. Wade is completely wrong is because the feds have no authority on that matter in the first place.

The sort of things Romney can do, if he is actual going to be on the side of the angels here and not just give lip service to the idea, would be to veto any spending bill that involved funding Planned Parenthood, stop giving foreign aid out to organizations involved in abortion via executive order, and most importantly, nominate Supreme Court justices who can read a plain English document and notice the absence of the word "abortion." These are things he has promised to do, and none of them are contradicted in any way by saying he doesn't have any pushes for anti-abortion legislation...

Being opposed to abortion, as I am, is one thing. Putting forth legislation or signing legislation that restricts abortion, is another.
