Claim: Obama campaign illegally solicited foreign donors via social media website | The Daily Caller

"President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign has been soliciting foreigners for donations, an explosive report from the conservative Government Accountability Institute (GAI) shows.

Those foreign donors are allegedly visiting the Obama campaign’s donation solicitation Web pages through a social media website the campaign controls, and through an outside website that serves mostly Internet users from outside the United States.

About 20 percent of visitors to the “my.barackobama.com” social media website “originated from foreign locations,” the report found. That Web address is owned and controlled by the Obama re-election campaign."

Not to attack the source, but TDC isn't exactly bipartisan and known for absolute accuracy.

I will also have to see confirmation of the crime. Internet Protocol addresses don't mean money transfers.

If a law is being broken, that is bad. If not and this is libel, that is bad. Let's see more info.

I started a thread on this,, maybe the mod can merge them? this is going to be a big story

The DC is relying on an outside source so they are reporting on the story, not making the allegation themselves. I think it is a yawner of a story myself, and like most "much anticipated" political stories, hardly worth the wait.

Fair enough. I missed that while skimming the article.

It does actually matter to me that the candidates don't accept out-of-country aid for several reasons. I would need to be convinced of intent and confirmation from multiple sources to get riled, though.

Peter Schweizer huh... I'm sure this will be objective and carefully thought through. LMFAO.

Look on Webster.com under "bias" and it shows Peter.

Daily Caller...Tucker...LOL!!!

Part Of Romney's Foreign Itinerary: Raising Money : NPR

. . .
"I think that there's been an incredible response to Gov. Romney's fundraiser," says Jonny Daniels, an Israeli political consultant with close ties to the Republican Party. "I know dozens of people that are flying out to Israel from the United States, literally for a few days, just to be in Israel when the governor's there."

He says the travelers include leaders of the Republican Jewish Coalition and other members of the GOP elite.

"Which, in fact, in terms of what Gov. Romney's doing, strengthens his ties with these people," Daniels says. "Enables them to be with him not just for a fundraiser, but to be with him in a day in a place that they call home."

. . .
Just so's you know, rule of thumb in right wing pundits; what they accuse the democrats of without providing facts, is what the republicans are FACTUALLY doing.

The out of country folks who could muster enough funds to swing an election are going to take all of 5 minutes to figure out a way to domesticate the money first IMO so it doesn't get picked up. I really don't care if a village in Narnia sells its lion to be able to make a $25 donation to any campaign though.

Fair enough (except that lion is an allegory for Jesus, so it might really suck for them). I still feel we should at least make them pretend the money is domestic.

You have the parties confused. It is the reverse that is true.

Can't prove that with flip flop Mr. Etch a Sketch Romney and the FOX opinion team.

Peter Schweizer huh... I'm sure this will be objective and carefully thought through. LMFAO.

Look on Webster.com under "bias" and it shows Peter.

After Schweizer exposed insider trading in WA Obama signed legislation to put a stop to it.

So there goes that false narrative. When you can't refute facts you try and mock/humiliate/attack the source. That's all you have because the ideology you stand for is a failure. The President that you support is a failure. The Political Party you represent is a failure.

I'm the treasurer for a state level campaign out here in AZ and doing something like this would be incredibly easy. Granted, that doesn't mean that it's happening but the ease with which tons of money can be funneled into a campaign is startling and the difficulty in catching someone doing it would be significant. More than that, it can be done in such a way that the candidate has no real way of knowing it was happening without doing some serious forensic auditing.

Yeah, liberals and everything associated with them are villains, conservatives are heroes that fight against evil.

While that is generally true, one must be careful not to overstate the case...

Absolutely true!! Before I became a hardened conservative, I noticed that the DEMs always accused the GOP of doing the dirty crap that they themselves were actually doing day in and day out.

I know you are trying to be sarcastic - but what you say is more truth than sarcasm.

Every cultural, economic, and most foreign policy problems we have are absolutely the result of DEM action. DEMs may have had the holiest of intentions in their initial legislation - affirmative action for instance - but the possible consequences of those actions always escape them - either from willful ignorance, un-intelligence, or malfeasance - the fact is that the 'unintended' consequences of their actions have destroyed the economy, coarsened the culture, and put our international standing at risk.

Conservatives are not immune from mistakes, but they really do have intelligence and real patriotism at heart. Conservatives generally want to honor hard work, fair play, traditional values, and national defense. All of these qualities - more often than not - lead to a better economy and a safer, freer nation.

What if... the many beliefs you have; that conservatives are smarter, more patriotic, harder working, fairer, have better values... what if that isn't true. What if these beliefs are all in your head. What if you're wrong, what if *gasp*, what if liberals are smarter... or about the same overall... but you don't know this?

Have you ever thought about this, that your beliefs might be wrong?

Of course not.

If Obama is getting foreign funding... it should come to light and dealt with. As should this:

Canadian-owned firm's mega-donation to super PAC raises ‘legal red flags’
Pro-Romney group received $1 million from foreign-owned company

A million-dollar donation by a foreign-owned corporation to a Republican super PAC has raised legal concerns and opened up the controversial Citizens United Supreme Court decision to new criticism.

Restore Our Future, the super PAC supporting Republican Mitt Romney’s run for president, received a $1 million donation in mid-August from reinsurance company OdysseyRe of Connecticut, a “wholly-owned subsidiary” of Canadian insurance and investment management giant Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited.

Fairfax Financial’s founder is Indian-born V. Prem Watsa. Watsa serves as CEO and chairman and owns or controls 45 percent of the company’s shares. He is also the chairman of the board of OdysseyRe, the American subsidiary.

We make enough tax revenue from so many of their comedians fleeing to a place that has a sense of humor that Canada should get a pass on donating to US campaigns.
