Networks, AP cancel exit polls in 19 states

Breaking from two decades of tradition, this year’s election exit poll is set to include surveys of voters in 31 states, not all 50 as it has for the past five presidential elections, according to multiple people involved in the planning.

Is this some kind of cost cutting measure or what?

More likely following my dear grandmother's advice that "If you don't want to hear the answer, don't ask the question."

Not sure, but I really don't see why we need exit polling in places like New York, Texas, California, Hawaii etc. We can be sure of who those will go to already. I know I wouldn't waste my money on states that have been decided months ago.

EDIT: Scratch that not sure part of my post. You posted the article, if you actually read it it tells you very clearly why they are doing this. They are allocating resources away from states that are leaning solidly to one candidate and focusing on states that are less decided. Also it goes into detail about the difficulties of exit polling given how much early voting occurs.

All you had to do was read the article.

In the past news orgs took large differences between the exit polling and the actual poll results to mean there may have been a problem with that state's election results.

If only they would just release the voting data from the polls + attached demographics.

From the article:

Comparing this list with the election map, reveals how carefully the exit poll planners allocated resources. All 19 of the states with no exit polls are classified as either “solid Obama” or “solid Romney,”

So yes, why waste money telling us how the District of Columbia is going to vote. Like we don't already know.

They know the game is up

Their falsely created Santa Claus has been exposed on a National Stage for all to see

It's Game Over

Jersey wasn't cancelled. Here's the actual list:

Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming.

Most of these are small states that aren't in play. Texas is big, but it's not even remotely in play. Some of these are certain to go Obama, some are certain to go Romney. You tell me which of these states are in play. I'm hard pressed to find any reason that any of these states isn't already decided.

:lamo............

fine nonsense it is...

people in my state know unless we get down our tax rate more people will be leaving it.. its not like we are a RED STATE that si thriving ... Chris is doing a good job though and people know that here..

Okay, so what do you think is "going on in NJ"?

But what if it's part of Obama's strategy to turn the US into an atheistic, Islamic, socialist dystopia?
How would that possibility come across if we jumped straight to reading?

I disagree with the idea that we don't need exit polls from non-swing states. Just because the final outcome is obvious, doesn't mean that we can't learn anything from the exit polls. Personally I think exit polls are helpful for political science research, and they help slice and dice the electorate into various demographics. But I recognize that this is expensive, and not necessarily "news." I hope the political science departments at some universities will pick up the slack and pay for exit polls themselves, if the news media won't. This is valuable data.

Im putting it in the win column.. : )

but it will be closer then people think...

Your warped opinion can not be trusted over a mound of polls saying that the race isn't even close. Sorry, I don't trust your judgement that much. But thanks for the laugh.

In reference to the presidential election: I can see the intention in cancelling exit polling in, say, Texas or California. Those states are foregone conclusions, so why spend time there?

More importantly, why we gotta bring Santa into this? That jolly ol' elf is without reproach, damn it!

Good. IMHO its counter to fair elections to tell voters in the west their votes won't matter because of winners being declared based on exit polling in the east. As casualty of modern communications technology. I wise they'd scrap all exit polling.

If Santa were on the ballot, I'd totally vote for him. Assuming he's a natural born citizen, of course.
