Paul Ryan On Why He Didn't Discuss Tax Plan Math: 'Everyone Would Start Changing The

Re: Paul Ryan On Why He Didn't Discuss Tax Plan Math: 'Everyone Would Start Changing

he dodged the question because he had been advised to do so by the campaign. i find it hard to criticize only one side for doing this, as vagueness on touchy issues pre-election is endemic in politics. neither side is innocent.

You would think that the intellectually curious would see a 0 vote for anything and they would investigate further to see what was the reasoning behind such actions.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that most of our conservative friends here have done just that, but it doesn't fit their narrative and thus prefer to utter the 'bumper sticker' version in public. It's a 'gotcha' moment.

Re: Paul Ryan On Why He Didn't Discuss Tax Plan Math: 'Everyone Would Start Changing

I posted how Paul Ryan "DODGED" the question of his and romneys tax plan...some conservatives on here said he clearly didnt...because they are clearly dishonest or clearly cant read....heres Paul Ryan admitting himself he dodged the question...I would like to add Paul Ryan is an idiot if he thinks people are going to buy this lame excuse...he CANT tell us his real tax plan because 98% of america wouldnt like it.

After a contentious back-and-forth with Chris Wallace of "Fox News Sunday," GOP vice-presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) explained the standoff on Monday by saying that he declined to discuss the math behind the Romney-Ryan tax plan because viewers would be bored by it.
"I like Chris; I didn't want to get into all of the math on this because everyone would start changing the channel," he told Milwaukee talk radio host Charlie Sykes.

It;s just like Romney's missing income tax forms, he's hiding something.

Re: Paul Ryan On Why He Didn't Discuss Tax Plan Math: 'Everyone Would Start Changing

Heres what I don't understand and I have said it on other threads. When Clinton was running he said he had the "revolutionary new plan" for changing the economy which he said was put together with the help of leading economists. He put this plan out on the internet and mailed copies to anyone who asked for it. During his campaign he used sound bites to talk about it. the only time he went into any detail verbally was during the debates.

Why won't Romney/Ryan do the same. If it takes to long to explain on TV why won't they put it on the internet or mail it out.

I got a copy of Clintons plan and I was able to understand it. I hate math and never much got beyond the basics. Whats the big deal? If he can't explain it on TV ok fine but why won't he put it out there for people to see. Yes I know too complex. Well if its too complex for Joe Public do you think Congress is going to understand it? they have never been able to figure out what their own budgets say!

This reasoning by the Reps is nothing more than a dodge. They don't want the people to know because it would put thier campaign in the ground since the nails are already in the coffin thanks to Romney

The folks at the AARP convention did not know what was in it but they smelled a red herring and let him know about it.

Re: Paul Ryan On Why He Didn't Discuss Tax Plan Math: 'Everyone Would Start Changing

Obama can't explain how he is going to close the deficit. Last Obama budget got 0 votes in either house in congress.

With your own logic Obama does not have the right to become President.

Obama's plan cuts 4 trillion in 10 years from the defict. Ryans tax cut plan will COST an extra 5 Trillion in 10 years. Ryan stated if they can't find ways to pay for it they will still see the tax cuts as their "priority". Translated, it means they don't care about the deficit as long as they get their tax cuts.

The reason is that implementation of their plan depends heavily on the actions of Congress. That is an unknown at this point so any concrete numbers are meaningless.

Personally, I am quite comfortable with knowing the direction Romney intends and waiting to see if Congress goes along with that direction.

Plus, it's better than the direction Obama intends.

Obama is certainly not cutting 4 trillion in his budget plan, as he is planning no tax hikes or major cuts. Actual cuts is about 2.3 trillion and most of it is tax hikes and defence cuts.

The real numbers are given here Obama vs. Paul Ryan Budget Plan: Interactive Graph

By the end of 2021, Obama is plannig to have a deficit of 1.1 trillion. Ryans is planning to have a deficit of 0.4 trillion. That is a difference of 0.6 trillion USD, or 6 trillion in a decade.

Yes of course it is. I would rather know whats in an apple pie before I bite into and find out its poisonberry.

Re: Paul Ryan On Why He Didn't Discuss Tax Plan Math: 'Everyone Would Start Changing

Wasn't too long ago there was a controversy about the Romney / Ryan plan. It left out the details of how it would work because it didn't add up. The only way to make it work would be to tax the bottom 80% of the country. Now we revisit the issue and Ryan refuses to give us the details.

You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to solve this case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Re: Paul Ryan On Why He Didn't Discuss Tax Plan Math: 'Everyone Would Start Changing

My liberal bretheren:

It was a brief Fox News interview. It wasn't really the place for an in-depth explanation of a tax plan. I wouldn't have expected details in a setting like that.

Now, I do want to see the math somewhere. Quite frankly, the bullet-points I've seen on the plan don't appear to add up. A 20% across-the-board cut in already-historically-low marginal rates? Show me how you think this isn't going to increase deficits!

In each of those cases where unanimous votes were made against "the President's budget," one of two things happened:
1) A different budget "solution" (snort) had already been agreed upon by both parties, leaving the President's budget redundant, but already scheduled for a vote so they had to vote on it.
2) The "President's Budget" had actually been introduced by Republicans, with the same "end-game" spending numbers but wildly different areas getting cut, making it anything but "the President's Budget." (i.e. political stunt on part of the GOP)

I mean really. Did you really think the entire Democratic party would vote against the President's budget? Not even one vote in favor? Not from any of those wild-spending big government socialists you think fill up the (D) side of Congress?

....they did.

Re: Paul Ryan On Why He Didn't Discuss Tax Plan Math: 'Everyone Would Start Changing

Ryan's 'plan' if you can call it that, had no hard numbers to back his claims it would come close to doing what he claimed. THIS plan now is the same, that is why he won't 'bore' us with the math.

The Obama/Ryan round one was both sides trying to force the other to commit to something. But since the bottomline is neither side managed to advance their agenda then let us look at now. Ryan has had MONTHS to polish a presentation on his budget. Instead he and Willard are just saying trust us, we will tell you all about it AFTER the election...

That sort of dodge/deception is why many just can't embrace Willard whole heartedly, even those in the GOP. Not even his own party trusts him to toe the partyline, while the Middle Class sees him more as the Auctioneer in Chief than the leader going to grow the Middle Class. Willard's TV ads claiming he has a plan to create 12 million new jobs in 4 years- without a single hint to just how he plans to do that- yet another example or all hat and no cattle...

Re: Paul Ryan On Why He Didn't Discuss Tax Plan Math: 'Everyone Would Start Changing

I don't hate Paul Ryan but I'm astonished that anyone could think that 98% of us don't want to know more.

BTW, Obama already IS the President. Unless Romney/Ryan are going to be revealing, I'm afraid he will continue to be President by default.

Who cares if he did or not, its a nonissue.

Yea, we get it. You hate Paul Ryan.

However you are deluded if you think the rest of America is like you. Most of America do not care about this issue, and would change channel if he started talking about the maths behind the figures.

Re: Paul Ryan On Why He Didn't Discuss Tax Plan Math: 'Everyone Would Start Changing

I will NOT be voting for Obama. But your point is very correct. If I can't be shown enough respect to be give SOME specifics, I will not vote for Romney either.

There are short and long forms when it comes to math. I'll settle for short but I won't settle for NONE.

Re: Paul Ryan On Why He Didn't Discuss Tax Plan Math: 'Everyone Would Start Changing

Ryan is right. Most republicans who will vote for Romney just don't care about facts or math. Why bore the heck out of them with a bunch of made up numbers that have not worked for the past 3 republican administrations? There is only one thing that matters to the Romney base, and that is that he is not Obama. It does not even matter that he has reversed almost every hard line stance he supposedly took in the past month to agree with Obama's policies. It is a tactic he should have done a long time ago to get swing voters, and now he is hopelessly attached to the ideas of extremism. Still the end result is the president does not directly control budgets, programs, or even any hiring. The president has to come up with plans that will hopefully influence economic growth, and somewhere in there get it passed by congress. It makes sense to promise they have a plan that will do the job and not let out the details. As soon as they let out the details people will see it is the same ideas we have seen for our whole lives, and they are not guaranteed to produce results. In this way they make hope for a magical solution that will fix the problem. It is a lot like a magic trick. When you don't know what is going on people can believe it is magic. When you know the trick it just is a trick and does not actually do any magic.

Romney has done way too much talking, and it would really benefit him to shut up and not keep proving he is a complete idiot. It is probably a little to little at this point. If he really had an obvious plan for improving the economy it is time to lay it out so people vote for him. The only reason to hide it at this point is to pretend he has a magical solution which anyone with a brain knows he doesn't.

I haven't talked about a percentage, but the overall majority do not care about Romney's budget. And Romney knows he won't get any benefit from releasing the details, and so do Obama. The reason Clinton did otherwise was because Clinton had much better numbers to play with and without the internet it is easier to control the message.

But remember, I didn't say Romney not releasing his numbers is a nonissue, but that Ryan did not give maths in the interview is a nonissue.

BTW, Obama already IS the President. Unless Romney/Ryan are going to be revealing, I'm afraid he will continue to be President by default.
Obama is going to win no matter what Romney does. The only ones who can make Obama lose is Democrats and Obama himself.

Sorry Canlon. I mixed your post up with Ipast's post.

I must say that I think Romney could win by being more specific.
