Am just curious how many here have put up a political sign this presidental election year.

I don't put up any signs on my yard nor graffiti my vehicles with bumper stickers. Am just curious what compells someone to put up a Obama or Romney sign.

I have a neighbor who has 6 signs for different offices and all Democrat candidates. Drive one block down the street and someone has 5 signs with all Republicans. Why not just put up a D or R and call it a day.

Do these people really believe they are going to influence someone? Has anyone here ever drove down a street and saw a political sign and said to self, "Yeah , I like that sign. I think I'll vote for him too."?

I have this sign:

I have a few Johnson signs up.

It could help if for candidate identification for some voters, depending on the local ballot process/layout.

But yeah, the data there is suggests that purchasing signs provides a poor return on investment for candidates. I do occasionally see signs for the smaller elections in my neighbourhood but nothing for Nov 6 yet, only one I've seen is on a fairly busy secondary and secondary highway intersection a few miles away. *shrug*

I've got a sign for my State Senate candidate but it's the only one. I also put up signs on the streets around town for him and a state congressional candidate.

Someone said that the return on investment for signs is weak but I'd totally disagree as name recognition is a HUGE factor in getting elected.

I have a political sign on the corner of my property but I am not the one who put it up. A bunch of HS kids trying to be involved in politics were out volunteering and I told them they could more so to encourage their activism than to support their candidate. I wanted them to feel like they were having an impact and I knew very few people in the area were going to let them put one in their yard.

i haven't put any up, but if a candidate that i liked asked me to, i'd consider it. it basically helps with name recognition.

Hehe, I just thought I had to share this: Back in 2008, my uncle a (Democrat) quietly put an Obama sign on my great-aunt's (a diehard Republican) yard in the middle of the night. When she woke up and saw it she was so mad it wasn't even funny.

I have one in my yard for States Attorney. I know the guy and even though he is a Democrat and I am a Conservative I will still vote for him. That is the only one in my yard and the only one going in my yard.

I can perhaps understand one sign if you have a direct contact with the candidate. But when a yard is peppered with signs like a used car lot it makes me want to vote oppositely.

I don't do yard signs.

Boyfriend has a Ron Paul sticker on his car. I had a McCain sticker during the '08 campaign. Right now the only sticker on my car is the Texas flag with the word "HOME" underneath it.

I'd only do it for a local candidate I was extremely passionate about. I haven't done it in the past.

I've put up signs in the past, but they just get vandalized.

Then again, when I was young, I would drive around town collecting as many as would fit in my trunk.....So I could make a nice grid of outdated election signs in someone's yard in July.

I totally agree. I have seen yards that I swear are just collecting signs.

I was raised where your house is not a political stand point and open to advertising.

Nothing in my yard, but I still have my Ron Paul 2008 sticker on the bumper of my car.

I don't put up political messages in that context. I have some religious shirts, I have a veteran's plate on my car, and I carry a gun...that's about as far as I go in advertising my politics.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone driving by a house and saying "damn, that's a nice sign, I'm gonna vote for that guy his color scheme rocks!". I understand it's a way of letting other people know who you support, but I think that your political alignment should only be expressed through your voting and in an atmosphere where it is appropriate.

I usually put my country's flag out my window.

lolz, nice prank

I think I've got a sticker or two, and did campaign work for a local election as required by my AP government class. But never a sign, got a small US flag by the mailbox I think...
