The title says it all, with all this framing of Obama championing the welfare state, I thought I'd post some facts about where most of the welfare spending actually goes. What a surprise, to the rich.

Think by Numbers » Government Spends More on Corporate Welfare Subsidies than Social Welfare Programs

Have at it folks, let the conservative apologizing commence!

Hey, this may come as a huge surprise, but the President is a Democrat.

No president has ever been more owned by the super rich than Obama.

Owned by the super rich but simultaneously working harder than any president in history to take all their money and give it to the poor.

You just make this up as you go, don't you?

He's also a Muslim who attended Rev. Wright's church for 20 years.

Actually, the government spends more like a TRILLION dollars on welfare of one sort or another. I'm speaking of "welfare" in the generic sense, as in government aid or payments or wealth redistribution of all types, not the so-named-program only.

The article fails big time. Subsidies =/= welfare.

Does that include defense contracts?

Nope. Obviously.

Not to say a helluvalotta pork and waste couldn't be cut out of THAT budget also....

Every President is owned by the super-rich. Until we have an A.I. as world president, almost nothing will ever get done and what does will benefit few before many.

Am I wrong?

A.I. For President 2056

My favorite apology, they're ALL 100% corrupt so the argument is moot. Why even bother posting here then? Why vote?

So I guess the 47% not paying FIT, that's subsidies right?

The article talks about subsidies, not taxes. Further, most of the subsidies went to farm aid. Hardly the "corporate welfare" the OP wanted us to believe it was.

Plus the article grossly under cuts the welfare costs. 55% of the federal budget is dedicated to Social Security, Health and Human services (including Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP) Welfare and other safety net programs. If the budget is $3.5 trillion you can come up with the actual amount spent on social programs.

Just because someone is corrupt doesn't mean that they won't have influences of their own. So you vote for the influence you prefer to see. You are also voting for which super-rich guys will have the greater influence. Surely that's enough to post endlessly and vote early and often.

Also, posts containing science-fiction references like demanding an A.I. as world leader should not be taken too seriously. 2056 is a while off yet.

Subsidies are bull****.

Eventually we should put in subsidies for things like green energy... but for now we should completely level the playing field.

Second hardest among modern Presidents. Lyndon Johnson of course started Democrats down the road to their Great Society:

"I'll have those n*ggers voting Democratic for the next 200 years" -- LBJ

The name of that website is incorrect.

Instead of being called "Think by Numbers"...it should be called "Spin by Numbers" because that's all they are doing.

So-called corporate welfare isn't welfare at all...not in the sense that normal welfare is welfare. How many "welfare queens" get tax subsidies or tax breaks if they relocate into a certain neighborhood? Answer: None of them. They just get cash.

So...show me the corporations that get a cash payment from the government and I might consider that to be "welfare" and we can see how that amount compares to the amount the welfare queens get.

Giveaway vs keep more of what you earned. They are NOT the same thing. Just...FYI.

Do you think farm aid goes to mom and pop operations? No, it goes to super massive corporate farms, research the subject.

Social security, Medicare, Medicaid, those are programs people payed into.

3.5 trillion, yes, most of it goes to defense and old people, much less goes to welfare which is the point of this post.

So hilarious watching the conservatives spin subsidies as being something other than free money. You guys are weird, why do you like having your tax money go to wealthy corporations but it makes you sick to see a poor person helped? It makes no sense at all.

Dude...I grew up in rural Kansas...the evening news started with the Agriculture Report...I know exactly what it is and the difference between corporate farms and family farms.

Most farm subsidies go to CRP, crop development (i.e. hybrid seeds) and equipment loan guarantees. Some go to stupid things like ethanol production. But it isn't this big evil program that libs love to make it out to be...and it is far far smaller than any social program.

all we get from dem handouts is more dependent dem voters. "Corporate welfare" often benefits the area where it takes place

The Über rich see welfare socialism as an opiate of the masses and allows them more power. ITs why so many uber wealthy are big dems

While I certainly wouldn't make the argument that Obama has been significantly better for the poor than most other presidents, the notion that he is "more owned" by the super rich strikes me as hyperbolic at best.
