"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

Barack Obama, 2006 snopes.com: Obama on the Debt Limit

:rofl

You got me - just googled it and Obama's name came up...

But didn't the phrase "the buck stops here" originate with Reagan?

edited to add: According to my sources, it was actually Truman who first said that... Oh well.

Funny he would say something like this in '06 then here recently stated that our debt issue isn't a short term problem that needs to be dealt with...Someone got into his ear when he was inaugurated...if he really meant what he said then we would've cut spending not increase it.

I think he had a sign on his desk that said that if I recall correctly.

No matter what they say before they are elected means nothing when the real owners explain to them the way things REALLY are.

Or so it would seem.....

I have often thought that when one becomes President, one is given a top-secret-die-if-you-divulge-it briefing from mutes who only talk in sign language and are kept in an underground vault.

Bill Clinton said he went into the WH really wanting to know if UFO's really exist and who really killed Kennedy and he knew no more about those things when he left than when he came.

Of course, Slick's been known to tell a whopper or two.

Thanks. Of course I imagine "buck" then would be another 4 letter word today with a * in the middle for the "i" LOL
