Mitt Romney, On 60 Minutes, Cites Emergency Room As Health Care Option For Uninsured

Re: Mitt Romney, On 60 Minutes, Cites Emergency Room As Health Care Option For Uninsu

I think it is dangerous to over generalize when it comes to poverty which has lots of shapes and forms. Poor people did survive before welfare though. I'd have a lot less problem with the system if I saw poor people growing gardens instead of standing in line at the food bank in the middle of summer. I am sure many do, but when I drive around some of the poorest areas in my town I seldom see it. I'd have a lot less problem with it if I didn't regularly see poor people buying chips and salsa with food stamps and the beer with the wad of cash they pull out of their pocket. Perhaps not the majority, but I do see it. I'd have less problem with it if I did not see people using food stamps card at the grocery go out and get in nicer cars than some of the working poor I know could afford, complete with shiny non-stock rims and thumping stereos. I'd have a lot less problem with it if teenagers were not getting SSI checks to drop out of school and claim they have a learning disability that keeps them from attending regular school. Within my extended family and circle of acquaintances, there is a plethora of anecdotal evidence sufficient to make me think that there are tons of people out there who could do more but make excuses not to do more to help themselves.
