Obama In 1998: "I Actually Believe In Redistribution" - YouTube

The share of Americans who’ve been out of work a long time — now at 42% of the unemployed — is the highest since the Great Depression (source: Labor Department).

• The proportion of the civilian working-age population actually working, at 58%, is the smallest since the Carter era (Labor Department).

• Growth in nonfarm payroll jobs since the recovery began in June 2009 is the slowest of any comparable recovery since World War II (Hoover Institution).

• The rate of new business startups — the engine of job growth — has plunged to an all-time low of 7.87% of all businesses (Census Bureau).

• 3 in 10 young adults can’t find jobs and live with their parents, highest since the 1950s (Pew Research).

• 54% of bachelor’s degree-holders under the age of 25 are jobless or underemployed, the highest share in decades (Northeastern University).

• Black teen unemployment, now at 37%, is near Depression-era highs (Labor Department).

• Almost 1 in 6 Americans are now poor — the highest ratio in 30 years — and the total number of poor, at 49.1 million, is the largest on record (Census).

• The share of Hispanics in poverty has topped that of blacks for the first time, 28.2% to 25.4% (Census).

• The number of Americans on food stamps — 45 million recipients, or 1 in 7 residents — also is the highest on record (Congressional Budget Office).

• Total government dependency — defined as the share of Americans receiving one or more federal benefit payments — is now at 47%, highest ever (Hoover).

• The share of Americans paying no income tax, at 49.5%, is the highest ever (Heritage Foundation, IRS).

Re: Obama's Marxist/Socialist Roots Confirmed: ""I Actually Believe In Redistribution

• The federal debt, at 69% of GDP, is the highest since just after WWII (CBO).
Only thing I would point out is that this was when he entered office... That it has now grown to 104% of GDP, and the only time other than WWII, when we were suddenly thrust into fighting a two front war across oceans, that we have had a debt of over 100% of our GDP... and that the 35% climb in debt is by far the highest peacetime rise in debt ever recorded...

Re: Obama's Marxist/Socialist Roots Confirmed: ""I Actually Believe In Redistribution

Don't all liberals in one way or another believe in redistribution?

Re: Obama's Marxist/Socialist Roots Confirmed: ""I Actually Believe In Redistribution

Don't all liberals in one way or another believe in redistribution?

I do, though I won't claim to speak for others. On the other hand, I don't define redistribution the same way. What I look at is the end result of policy. If we have two people making $1.1 million and tax that last $100,000 at 25%, then change the rate for one of those people to 35% and the other to 15% I would say you have income redistribution. You've removed $10,000 from one of the people and effectively given it to the other. Those who think redistribution is a dirty word will have no part in this and say that unless the $10,000 payment actually comes from the government no income redistribution has occurred. So if I left that person at 25% but gave him a $10,000 government payment it's turned into redistribution, even though the result is exactly the same.

So I see redistribution impossible to avoid so long as you have a government and taxes... But I don't see it as a bad thing either. I don't think we should have a 100% estate tax, but I do think we should perhaps help the guy born into poverty at the expense of the guy born into wealth. Tax his income a bit higher than the poor guy to help the poor guy move up the economic ladder. (Note that this tax rate manipulation may not be considered redistribution depending who you ask...) So for example something I dislike is social security tax. It's not a retirement investment, it's a public insurance system, and it taxes the middle class much much heavier than the wealthy. It's a redistribution from the middle class to higher incomes as they pay a lower effective tax rate (if they pay it at all, since they may have no earned income).

Re: Obama's Marxist/Socialist Roots Confirmed: ""I Actually Believe In Redistribution

Yup, redistribution of wealth, or as regular people call it taxes. You can call it what you like, but the reality is unless you are super rich it is not going away under romney. only difference is instead of flowing from poor to rich under romney it will flow from the excess to the needy under obama. Since obama merely wants to raise it to the same level everyone else pays for the rich who pay a lot less. I am pretty sure mitt can survive next year on 14 million. i don't see the hardship unless he spends himself into big debt like newt did. You republicans make it sound like obama is going tot ak every dime people have and give it to the poor. Like he could even get that proposed through congress, and then put on his desk if he wanted to. Nope, just simply raising the percentage rate on some really well off people and then putting it into government programs that benefit us all.

But call it what you will, I don't think this is any thing new from the republican spin machine. It did not work in 2008, and it has not worked so far here, but Don't let it stop you guys from clinging to that sinking ship. At least other republicans have the good sense to jump off the Romney boat while there is still time.

Not entirely. Redistribution is taking money from one party and somehow (supposedly) making it benefit another party. Harming one party to help another. Not everything the government does necessarily does that.

The Lowlights of Obamanomics

Yes the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. So what do we do? Cut taxes for the rich and cut programs for the poor.

On a side note our economy is rebounding nicely. Admittedly the disparity in wealth is growing, and "redistribution" is standing in it's way.

Wake up dude the rich are stealing from the poor more and more that's why you get these statistics.

I know you'll say oh ya right rich steal from the poor? how?

Here's how, inflation drives up cost of living while salaries are rising too slowly. Corporate makes more and more profit from the higher cost of goods while their workers don't.

Oh Bronson, your one of the 47% Romney considers a "leech". He doesn't like you he just likes your vote.
