That comment was also made fairly early in the Obama campaign. I'd agree that it wouldn't do as much damage if that were the case here, but we are now 2 months from election day. Romney also insulted almost half of the country in that clip. I think it's fairly safe to say that it will do more damage than Obama's comment did.

his rhetoric was phrased to insult Obama voters who don't pay taxes ...Obama voters who won''t vote for him anyways.

the rhetoric was far from honest, to be sure.
the 47% who don't pay taxes aren't all Obama voters... but it is plain for all to see that he was insinuating exactly that.

there are people right now, who don't pay taxes, and are sitting on sofas bought with government handout money, who are thinking " yeah, those damn idiot Obama voters, why can't they take responsibility for their lives?"

you can say what you want about anyone... you can insult the very things they do and believe.... but if you tie those bad things in with the other candidates voters, you haven't lost a vote... folks with gloss over it in a heartbeat.

Obamas "clinging to guns and religion" schtick should have pissed off a ton of religious gun owning Democrats... but it didn't.... they glossed over it when he tied those bad traits in with the other guy.

they don't. they may pay payroll taxes, or sales taxes or something of the like. but the fact remains that if, like me, they are "lower income", then many of them will have a net negative tax rate even after you account for these things.

You may not have lost a vote, but you've ensured that you'll never gain that vote. It also may turn off voters on your side who don't like the idea of voting an elitist into office.

He could have clarified his statement, then. Those comments will only serve to come off as elitist and piss off a lot of "lower income" voters whom he has automatically shifted to the Obama side.

Ive seen the video... and nothing he says is inaccurate...

Most Obama supporters want free entitlement protections so they don't have to go out and earn and provide things for themselves...

There's nothing secretive about Romney's statement either... he said the same thing at a widely publicized campaign event in IL during the primaries...



and he's stuck to that message throughout the entire process...
