Republican lawmakers say Romney campaign needs to change course - The Hill - covering Congress, Politics, Political Campaigns and Capitol Hill | TheHill.com

Republican lawmakers are grumbling about the direction of Mitt Romney’s campaign and say he needs to change course.
The complaints come as polls show that Romney lost ground on President Obama following the party’s respective conventions in Tampa, Fla. and Charlotte, N.C.
The GOP members say Romney must do a better job of communicating to voters what to expect of him, either by making a bold pledge akin to George H.W. Bush’s 1988 “no new taxes” promise or fleshing policy proposals with more details.

Not good... not good at all. Under 2 months to the election and the grumblings among the GOP elite are getting louder and louder. The miss steps by Romney and his campaign are starting to mount up and getting more and more frequent and the GOP elite can see something has to be done.

Will Romney listen.. and suffer the political faux-pass of "restructuring" his campaign at this late date, or will he keep the course?

This shows Romney's lack of leadership skills.

I don't think its a matter of leadership Hairytic... I think its more a matter of panic. Republicans are stuck with a flip flopper and the public know that. They can't fix his image in any way shape or form so they instead want him to make more effort to convince the public that he is a steadfast guy. especially now since they did lose a large bulk of the people who cheered and supported Ron Paul (the very definition of consistent). No way in hell are they going to vote for Romney. But they will try and convince Romney to nibble round the edges of all possible constituents.

for RP supporters -> to make pledges and be more steadfast.
to minorities -> i don't know... Obama pretty much got that covered because of the racist nature of the black and most of the latina community. But he should try to nibble there too... draw 1-2% from Obama.

A GOP senator said he disagreed with his colleagues’ criticism. He said Romney should not offer more details for his tax plans because it would give the Obama campaign more ammunition for attacks.

Bad faith politics. If Romney can't run on his platform, he oughtn't be running at all.

The specifics are these which is those principles I described are the heart of my policy.

What a clown. Who is this guy?

Ironically I think Romney's not flip flopping enough. From all the things I've read, on a lot of social issues he's actually to the left of where he pretends to be, when it should be the opposite. He should pretend to be left of where he is in a general election to reach out to moderates and independents.

He still seems to be in the primary mode, bad campaign skills.

Hell yes Romney's 'to the left' of where he pretends to be.

No Republican advertises this fact so blatantly and then has an authentic change of heart.

If Romney were smart, he'd go on television and make this pledge: "We will not pursue a change of social policy in either direction during this Administration as long as we are given carte blanche over the economy." That would be a winning ticket. But Romney's bought into the myth of the all-powerful Republican base.

They need to start realizing... the fact is there's slightly more dems than republicans else it won't be "slightly" for much longer.

Where did you get those numbers from? Can you share with the community?
