Ive said since Ryan proposed his first plan...that once america becomes aware of its a take from the middleclass give to the rich scheme...it would flounder.

The latest New York Times/CBS News poll, conducted over the last week, found that Mr. Obama held an advantage over Mr. Romney on the question of who would do a better job of handling Medicare. That is consistent with other recent polls and is a shift from just last month, before the parties’ national conventions, when the two men were statistically tied on the issue.

In the Times/CBS poll, more than three-quarters of voters favored keeping Medicare the way it is rather than switching to a system like the one backed by Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan. From the White House on down, Democrats are calling the Republican approach a “voucher” plan, suggesting that it borders on privatizing the system; Republicans prefer the term “premium support.”

I don’t trust anybody who says ‘voucher,’ ” said Gary Fieldsend, 62, a recently retired employee at a Navy shipyard who was vacationing here with his wife Pamela, 64. The Fieldsends, from New Hampshire, another swing state, describe themselves as Democratic-leaning independents, and both said they were voting for Mr. Obama.

All this poll means is that those retirees believe him when Obama lies...because the fact is, none of them will lose anything...not even their enrollment or current benefits under any stated Republican plan.

Theres other americans that are to be considered and senior citizens realize that...after they are gone there will be other generations of seniors...its not always ALL ABOUT YOU yanno

The NYT isn't real news and no Obama isn't up on Medicare, especially where it counts - Florida

Seniors know under Obama Medicare will cease to exist because he gutted it, lied about it, and now they will be forced to take a pill in order to fund Sandra Flukes contraception

That Ryan hasn't been very clear about exactly what he's proposing is to his disadvantage. That 62-year-old won't even be effected. There's so much crappy information out there -- much like Obamacare suffered through -- that people don't even understand what he's proposing.

No offense, but, by the way, it's "founder," not flounder. ;) ;)

Maggie your taking the same view as all the conservatives...that is NOT whats turning seniors off....its the fact that ryan doesnt want to fix medicare he wants to destroy it with vouchers...you cannot give people a choice to be in medicare or not without the program failing and he KNOWS that and thats his intent...the second part that turns seniors totally off is that he wants to take from medicare an change social security and at the same time wants ANOTHER huge tax cut for only the top 2%....americans especially seniors are now acutely aware that the rich dont pay anything near what they whine they pay and they never have....
There is more to politics than whats in it for ME ME ME...the far right expects all seniors to just agree to screwing all future generations of seniors because Ryan and the teaparty were kind enough to exclude them so they could get the shaft through for everyone else...of course and get a nice tax cut in the bargain...

privatizing medicare is currently a non-starter. i worry about it more post 2016. i truly hope that if i'm lucky enough to achieve retirement age, i will finally partially escape the lousy and inefficient private insurance system.

That's impossible because the $716 billion spending cuts are slated for the 10-yesr period 2013-2022.

so is that why you prefer the administrations plans to make deeper cuts to current middle and low income seniors?

yup. now it's a race to see if Romney finally being able to tap campaign money is enough to counter the lies on this one.

They dont...that is savings...ryan destroys medicare...

Current seniors will not be put on vouchers no matter how many times you say it, or how many times the left wing media says it. Without reform, those under 55 will not have medicare the way we know it anyway. The plan is not to privatize medicare. Anyone will be able to have the same system if they want it. The plan is to reduce costs through competition by having a choice of using other insurers. Liberals are so bent on choice when it come to killing unborn babies, why not when it comes to what insurer you can use?
