OBama jumps the shark on Egpyt.. gaffetastic..

Im pointing out the gaffe..Egyot cant be both and then give them 1.5 billion dollars

So, you're upset cause Obama should have said that Egypt was not our ally, right?

Given that the government of Egypt was just overthrown and replaced, they are no longer considered an ally unless we established a new alliance with the new government since it took power.

Visit by Egypt’s Morsi to Iran reflects foreign policy shift - The Washington Post

CAIRO — A decision by Egypt’s new president to travel to Tehran for a summit of the Non-Aligned Movement this week reflects a major foreign policy shift for the Arab world’s most populous nation, after decades of subservience to Washington.

The visit by President Mohamed Morsi to Iran will be the first by an Egyptian leader since the nations broke off diplomatic relations in the 1980s after Egypt’s recognition of Israel. As the host nation, Iran is widely expected to use the gathering to strengthen tepid ties among the 120 countries set to attend the summit, and to decry what Tehran has portrayed as a heavy-handed and unfair crusade by the West to isolate the Islamic republic over its controversial nuclear program.

That counts as good standing? A visit by a head of state to a summit? Come back when you have something more substantial than Morsi has physically stepped foot in Iran.

So whats the gaffe? That Egypt isn't an ally of the United States? Do you think they are? Should Obama have said they are our best buddy in the world?

If Obama considers Egypt not an ally, why in the hell is he relying on Egypt to protect our embassy? If he thought for a second they are not our ally would he not think they would not protect our ambassadors? Especially on 9-11

You guys fail so hard...
darth-vader-epic-fail.jpg

One minute you criticize Obama for "apologizing" and "Sympathizing", now when Obama is forceful with Egypt's government, you guys criticize him for that. It is Egypt's govt. that is responsible for external security for foreign embassies in their country.

It's called diplomacy... Without actually saying it overtly, that "not our ally, not our enemy" line, gave Egypt notice. "Get your **** in order, or we will do it for you."

It's called stupidly, for Obama to think Egypt is not an ally, why in the hell did he not protect our embassy? Yet he leaves our embassy wide open for an attack, all the while Obama is thinking Egypt is not an ally of us.

Your dodge is noted..

welcome to my ignore button, I find your posts lacking reason..

is 1.5 billion of our tax dollars to a terrorist group enough or would you like to send more of your tax dollars?

for what? what does Egypt offer us? ,... I hear from Libs here that Israel is not even worth our support.. so why in heck would Egypt be worht a nickel? what do they offer civilzation?

I feel those who think a shark got jumped are correct, only it wasn't the President but Willard and Inhofe's knee jerk, attack before any details were known.

It was interesting to see how many 'conservatives' in here had the first reaction of calling for nuking the Middle East and our 'ally' Egypt while a bunch of others decried not calling Egypt an ally. Seems 'conservatives' are bipolar.

Some claim to know all too well the 'terrorist' group President Obama 'handed' Egypt to and other wail Obama handed Egypt over to 'unknown' terrorists.

Some combine the fairly well coordinated assassination of our Ambassador in Libya at a consulate outpost rather than the Embassy, how was it he was brought, drawn there? Combine that with the public protests in Egypt which are not using RPGs as a form of protest.

How 'conservative' templates slammed down and declared without ANY investigation the Ambassador was 'drug through the street' evoking the deaths of the Blackwater Mercs in Iraq.

How a shadow man with vague credentials makes a movie that gets dubbed with very precise hate and instigation, translated into one of the most common dialects in Egypt,(why Egypt?) at just the right time to be as provocative as possible.... is just seen as free speech even though we all can see how it would enrage the Mooslim World. (do you think a movie making heroes out of the 9-11 attackers and painting the decadent whore loving capitalists as Satan's minions wouldn't provoke widespread reaction here?

So with the likes of Willard and Inhofe rants coming before the fires in Libya were out about failure of leadership and attacking the President. Rants to nuke the Middle East, can't tell a Libyan hit squad from Egyptian public outrage, and trying to invoke the desecration Blackwater workers in Iraq...

I don't see the President as the one jumping a shark.

No? I want us to send a total of $0.00 to Egypt. I don't know why you think I indicated otherwise.

Really? Really? Every country as an obligation to protect the embassies in its countries from any kind of violence. Do you think if the Russian embassy in Washington was attacked by a mob of Americans that the police would just sit back and do nothing because Russia isn't our ally. If you have a diplomatic mission in your capital what would you stand to gain by letting it be attacked by your own citizens, as not only that nation watched as its embassy was attacked by every other nation watched you just not give a damn as a diplomatic mission to your country is attacked? What possible reason is there to just stand by and do nothing?

I'll give you another example, I was in South Korea for a while with in the Army, doing all that apologizing you were accusing me of earlier to Kim Jong Il and then his son for how bad the Korean War was you know. Anyway South Korea and Japan had an incident regarding an island they both claim and the South Koreans held a protest outside the Japanese embassy in Seoul, the started to get a bit violent and a man tried to drive his truck through the gate. Not only were the South Korean police already on the scene while it was peaceful, but once it turned violent they quickly got control of the situation. All this without Japan being an ally of South Korea.

funny... I see a person petrified that Barack Erkle Hussein Obama is about to be a skidmark in history starting in November..

Your posts make no sense to me... you just proved my point..

but in Egypt it is already destroyed from the Arab Spring.. the Goverment is not rebuilding it anyway..

Travis-
when you make statements like that all you do is show your intense bias and complete misunderstanding of the word, petrified.

Some folks are so filled with hate and partisanship they lose most of their ability to think and end up just spitting, hence the term spitting mad.

Willard just showed he isn't ready to govern, he makes snap judgements without waiting for any facts. Inhofe is a sock puppet.

'Conservatives' in here were jumping all over the place with wild rants and accusations... most fell before the sun went down...

But keep hope alive, cling to any and all rants... it will be interesting if after the election Willard's loss gets traced back to people not liking his knee jerk attack.

Keep Hope Alive!

By sock puppet you mean Barak Hussein Erkle Obama the Trojan Horse and Soros "sock puppet"?

your rhetoric is so flowery... I felt a Chris Mathews tingle..: )

Is this trolling?

Ahhh I see the Travis dictionary at it again... as off as petrified was in your mighty tome, so is flowery to mean well thought and laid out.

Well then again given your responses I can see how you think what I post is 'flowery'. ;)

You bias and baiting is well know here. I enjoy dis-CUSS-ing things with so partisan a poster, but you really need to bring your slurs, slights and smear up a bunch as they are very predictable and trite. Course seems the only response you seem capable of are just smears...

sign of a man with no real thought on the subject, just hate and frustration.

Obama is beyond an idiot...I guess he had to show Stupid Joe Biden "whos the real boss"

White House clarifies Obama

White House clarifies Obama’s statement that Egypt is not an ‘ally’
Posted By Josh Rogin Thursday, September 13, 2012 - 12:30 PM Share
President Barack Obama didn't intend to signal any change in the U.S.-Egypt relationship last night when he said Egypt is not an "ally," the White House told The Cable today.

In an interview with Telemundo Wednesday night, Obama said that the U.S. relationship with the new Egyptian government was a "work in progress," and emphasized that the United States is counting on the government of Egypt to better protect the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, which was attacked by protesters on Sept. 11.

"I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy," Obama said. "They're a new government that is trying to find its way. They were democratically elected. I think that we are going to have to see how they respond to this incident..snip

This is what happens when Obama is +5 in Florida and +7 in Ohio.

The opposition gets oh so very desperate. They're going full-Palin with their attacks at this point.

Is this trolling?

It's only trolling if he's trying to get a rise out of you. I think many on the extreme right (which is sadly now kind of the median of Conservatism) actually have such hatred and vitriol for our President that they can't help but spout such things. One would think that they would have at least a bit of respect for the office of the President, but they can't see past their own hatred and partisan nonsense. Honestly, a lot of this same thing went on with liberals during George W. Bush's presidency and it was just as ridiculous then.

from the op (fp's the cable):

"I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy," Obama said. "They're a new government that is trying to find its way. They were democratically elected. I think that we are going to have to see how they respond to this incident."

That comment had Egypt watchers scratching their heads, especially since technically, Egypt was designated as a Major Non-NATO Ally in 1989 when Congress first passed the law creating that status, which gives them special privileges in cooperating with the United States, especially in the security and technology arenas.

White House spokesman Tommy Vietor told The Cable Thursday that the administration is not signaling a change in that status.

"I think folks are reading way too much into this," Vietor said. "‘Ally' is a legal term of art. We don't have a mutual defense treaty with Egypt like we do with our NATO allies. But as the president has said, Egypt is longstanding and close partner of the United States, and we have built on that foundation by supporting Egypt's transition to democracy and working with the new government."

Administration sources told The Cable that Obama's "ally" comment was not pre-arranged or prepared by staff and that the question was not anticipated. Nevertheless, Middle East experts said Obama's word choice and tone is likely a reflection of the administration's feeling that Morsy's reaction to the attacks has not been forceful enough.

At Thursday's State Department press briefing, Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland confirmed that Egypt remains a Major Non-NATO Ally. Asked if the president misspoke, she said, "I am not going to parse the president's words."

we are all doomed.. for some reason Megadeath's Symphony of Destruction is playing in my mind as I read the article above

Former President Jimmy Carter spoke to students at Drake University in Des Moines today and was asked if he agreed with what Obama said about Egypt:

Carter: "Egypt is an ally of the US, we know Egypt well."

President Obama had earlier stated during an interview, "You know, I don’t think that we would consider them an ally, but we do not consider them an enemy."

Carter went on to talk about Egypt's new President, Mohamed Morsi, saying that he knew him well and that they had met. He added that Morsi was dedicated to peace and a democratic government.
