In a highly unusual rebuff to a close ally, the White House said on Tuesday that President Barack Obama would not meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a U.S. visit later this month, as tensions escalated over how to deal with Iran's nuclear program.

The apparent snub, coupled with Netanyahu's sharpened demands for a tougher U.S. line against Iran, threatened to plunge U.S.-Israeli relations into crisis and add pressure on Obama in the final stretch of a tight presidential election campaign.

An Israeli official, who declined to be identified, said the White House had refused Netanyahu's request to meet Obama when the Israeli leader visits the United States to attend the U.N. General Assembly, telling the Israelis, "The president's schedule will not permit that."

Egyptian demonstrators climbed the walls of the US Embassy in Cairo today and pulled down the American flag to protest a film they say is insulting to the prophet Mohammad.

CNN reports that U.S. security guards fired a volley of warning shots as the crowd gathered outside the embassy walls.

CNN adds that the embassy had been expecting a demonstration and cleared all diplomatic personnel earlier from the facility.

Obama ignores listening to Isreal whine we do not sacrifice US lives and money at their demand over an issue they made because they cannot live peacefully with anyone but their god's chosen. Yeah, i know i am disappointed we wont be getting into war with Iran this week. instead of fast and furious why don't we give some guns, ammo, and a free ticket to the middle east to any jew who wants to sacrifice their lives and fight for their holy land? Hey, we can give Mitt Romney the same invitation for his children and watch the whole family beg france for citizenship.

I love republicans, they say we have no money and need fiscal responsibility, but let us get into another war with money we borrow from china. Mitt Wants another cold war with russia too, and perhaps we could make another try at vietnam. that is republican fiscal responsibility for you. Let us piss off the globe, we don't need anyone but the US and isreal. It is because of that huge and effective isreali army. They are such great allies we need in the world, yet they can't fight a single battle without big brother US doing the dying for them.

Its all been decided.. Bibi doesn't want peace and Obama is not ready to attack Iran. What the h*ll is there to talk about.

Its a waste of time for our president... just as Israel has wasted the time of every US president and betrayed our generosity and financial support.

Let Bibi rant and rave and run his mouth.. If he is determined to attack Iran.. he should do so..

US President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have spoken and are "united" in efforts to keep Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, the White House says.

After saying earlier on Tuesday that Obama and Netanyahu could not meet in New York later this month due to a scheduling conflict, the White House said the Israeli leader had never asked to see Obama in the US capital.

"Contrary to reports in the press, there was never a request for Prime Minister Netanyahu to meet with President Obama in Washington, nor was a request for a meeting ever denied," the statement said.

On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the United States had refused to be firm with Tehran and thus had forfeited its moral right to stop Israel from taking action against Iran’s nuclear program. Netanyahu’s comments seem to indicate that an Israeli strike is closer than anyone thinks.
