Obama Screws our Soldiers - Again. By Violating His Own Law

Investors Business Daily reports in "Obama to Soldiers Overseas: No Voting for You":

Military: The administration thanks the troops for their service by failing to comply with a law requiring that it help soldiers deployed overseas cast ballots in their home states.

The administration has taken various states to court to block voter ID laws on the grounds it will disenfranchise voters. But it has no qualms about the disenfranchisement of military voters overseas through its failure to comply with and enforce the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act, passed by Congress in 2009 and signed into law by President Barack Obama.

The law acknowledges the difficulties caused by time and distance for deployed soldiers in exercising the right to vote they put their lives on the line to protect. One of the key provisions required each military branch to create an installation voting assistance office (IVAO) for every military base outside an immediate combat zone.

Last week, however, the Pentagon's inspector general reported that attempts to locate and contact IVAO offices at overseas military installations failed about half the time.

"Results were clear. Our attempts to contact IVAOs failed about 50% of the time," the inspector general reported. "We concluded the Services had not established all the IVAOs as intended by the MOVE Act because, among other issues, the funding was not available."

The estimated cost of establishing functioning IVAOs at all overseas military bases not in combat zones is estimated at between $15 million and $20 million a year. We wasted $530 million on Solyndra but can't afford a relative pittance to ensure our soldiers are not disenfranchised.

Soldiers, who risk their lives, are prevented from exercising their right to vote because Barack Obama knows they will support Republicans. Meanwhile, back in America, Barack Obama and Eric Holder stir up racial animosity with fictitious claims that Republicans are racists and want to impose Jim Crow laws in order to prevent minorities from voting. Large majorities of Americans agree with the need for Voter ID laws to ensure the integrity of the vote.

But when was the last time Barack Obama cared about integrity?

The Inspectors General have once again reported that behind the scenes Barack Obama is failing to fulfill his responsibilities as President and Commander-in-Chief. This is his modus operandi, of course. There is a litany of his deliberate failures that have been found by Inspectors Generals that have somehow escaped the attention of most of the media.

For example:

There's an inspector general's report that the number of green jobs generated by Obama's green schemes has been a figment of his and his campaign-spinners' imagination; that the drilling moratorium in the Gulf that has been subject to much scandal (the experts behind the report that was used to justify the ban denied that they had called for such a halt) was engineered at the last minute at the behest of Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar; one IG has found that the Obama team and GM have been conspiring to create a rosy image (cooking the books) behind the purported success of the auto bailout, according to the IG reviewing the bailout; and the inspector general monitoring the tens of billions of taxpayer dollars wasted on green energy programs found that the money was directed to projects linked to big Obama and Democrat donors - the inspector general said that they were steered to friends and family. Solyndra is just one example.

This desire to escape scrutiny of his actions is also shown by the manifold ways he has broken his promise to run a "transparent" administration by his and the media's assault on Darrell Issa, the Republican Congressman who heads up Government Oversight and Government Reform Committee, whose dogged pursuit of the truth had led to an almost unprecedented media attack against him. Obama only likes to grade himself. And, he likes to surround himself with sycophants who will boost his ego (as if it needed boosts).

But the media could care less about our soldiers. Very few journalists have ever served in the military. Furthermore, these facts would tarnish the image and hurt the reelection prospects of Barack Obama. I guess this explains why Obama is against approving late voting for the military.

IF this was true, you would hear Romney making all kinds of statements about it. This article is suspect and, IMHO, unreliable.

The article in the OP references Investors.com. The link to their article is here: Obama Administration Has Failed To Enforce The Law Promoting Military Voting - Investors.com

A quick search came up with a couple of big-name news organizations.

DoD: Half Of US Military Bases Lack Required Voter Assistance Offices « CBS DC

Military Voting Report Finds Voter Assistance Centers Lacking, Suggests Changes To Requirements

The HuffPo article, interestingly, has a video at the bottom of their page that references a story from FoxNews about Obama's attempts to restrict the military vote in Ohio and includes a statement from Romney's FaceBook page.

I guess, Hairytic, we can consider this to be a true issue.

The Presidential Election forum has turned in to the conspiracy theory forum with the most desperate thread OPs attacking Obama.

Since Mitt has come out and said he'll be keeping parts of Obamacare (virtually conceding the election in early-Sept.) they far-right is unloading their cannon of extreme attacks.... mostly out of frustration.

So wait, is this the President's fault, or the Pentagon's fault?

LOL!!!

Typical of you, hazlnut. Don't want to address the topic? No problem. Claim conspiracy...deflect to Romney...deflect to Obamacare...blame it all on the far-right.

Ummm...

You DO know who the Commander-in Chief is...right?

So he's responsible for making sure there's people and system's available for military personnel to vote?

Who lined all that stuff up 4 years ago? And 8 years ago, and 12 years ago?

Somehow I doubt that's the job of the president.

A new report from the Department of Defense inspector general finds that an initiative to accommodate voters on military bases isn't being implemented effectively. The study also suggests that legislation intended to increase outreach to military personnel is putting a misguided emphasis on in-person resources.

According to the 2009 Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act (MOVE), military facilities not located in war zones are required provide an office that service members can visit in order to receive hands-on assistance with the voting process. Such facilities are designed to ensure that troops have access to voter registration and absentee balloting materials, as well as a staff member to help walk them through the process.

Sounds like this is a DoD issue, not directly an Obama issue.

The expression, "The Buck Stops Here", applies...or it should.

Look, organizations...at all levels...are subject to this concept. If a corporation fails to make a profit, who gets the blame? The CEO? Or some nameless person in a department way down the chain?

If a military unit fails to achieve it's mission, who gets the blame? The Commander? Or one of the Privates?

It's no different at the highest levels of government...or the military. The buck stops at the President.

The buck stops at the President.

Funny how you and the other Cons didn't agree with that philosophy when Bush was president. Cons prove to be such hypocrites.

One would suspect you don't really need proof to make over generalizations.

The President always gets the blame when an executive department fails at something. He always has, always should. Why do you disagree?

Oh???

Could you give me an example of any time I did not apply that philosophy to Bush?

If not, then perhaps you should put your broad brush away when referring to me.

Really. Why is it now that Obama is in office the buck still seems to be stopping with Bush?

It's a nice soundbite, but useless without context.

Anyway, on the face of your video, it sounds different than the issue in this thread's topic. I mean, we are talking about Obama not enforcing a law he signed into effect, after all.

Oh???

Could you give me an example of any time I did not apply that philosophy to Bush?

If not, then perhaps you should put your broad brush away when referring to me.

Did you vote for him? If you did, then you obviously didn't hold him responsible.

One would suspect you don't really need proof to make over generalizations.

The President always gets the blame when an executive department fails at something. He always has, always should. Why do you disagree?

Yep, Cons blamed Bush so much they voted for him twice.

It is amazing how the Etch a Sketch guy is changing his position on Obamacare in order to appeal to Independents, isn't it? Now that he's no longer solely dependent on the Extreme Right, he's actually sounding like he's willing to - wait for it - COMPROMISE!

As for the story, we are supposed to believe that Barack Obama, who's done more for military people and their families than any other President in modern memory, is now intentionally screwing over the military. It's ridiculous.

are you refering to the conspiracy that Mitt and Bain made a steel workers wife get cancer becasue Mitt was not at Bain? and him not being at Bain somehow effected her insurance that she had period? but that Mitt is a cold hearted ruthless Man, who didnt even care?

So wait, is this the President's fault, or the Pentagon's fault?

Everything is the President's fault. Some latrine doesn't get cleaned at Fort Screwup, it's Obama's fault.

Did you vote for him? If you did, then you obviously didn't hold him responsible.

sigh...

Sorry, dude, but your biased notions of Bush have nothing to do with my decisions about whom I voted for and your attempts to paint me with your broad biased brush are a useless and stereotypical tactic. Kind of like saying all blacks vote for Obama, therefore they all agree with him.

Did you hold George Bush responsible for the murder of civilians in Iraq by U.S. soldiers? Did you hold George Bush responsible for jet fighters not inetercepting any of the planes on 9-11? I missed that.
