Romney says he would keep parts of Obama healthcare law - Yahoo! News

"I say we're going to replace Obamacare. And I'm replacing it with my own plan. And even in Massachusetts when I was governor, our plan there deals with pre-existing conditions and with young people," Romney told "Meet the Press."

You're going to replace Obamacare (which is Romneycare) with Romneycare now Mitt. What happened to this guy:

On the heels of Thursday's Supreme Court decision to uphold the majority of President Obama’s healthcare reform law, the Mitt Romney campaign heralded a simple message in a new Web video: "Day one. Job one. Repeal ObamaCare."

Romney campaign: 'Day one, job one, repeal ObamaCare' - The Hill's Video

Now it would seem "Day one. Job one" is really "Some of it, when I get around to it." At this point, it seems the only thing keeping Romney in the race is the dismal failure that is Obama. I wonder how much longer he can count on that.

Its a complete fantasy for one to think you could categorically repeal the ACA. There are things in that plan that people absolutely want and would not go back upon. In fact, other than the mandate provision and making employers provide coverage, there really isn't that much objectionable to it.

True, and I'm not in the least bit surprised that the author of most of Obamacare is suddenly not so against it.

Except those two things are what pay for all the extra benefits that people love so much.

He lost 5 points in a week.

He will flip flop to SAME AS OBAMA by Nov! lmao

The ACA is more than double it's initial projected cost. It's a total disaster that is going to bankrupt the country. HC costs are going up. Not down. If you guys want to run on Obamacare let's do it. Let's go through it line by line. All 2k pages of it. We can talk about all the tax hikes in it. There's quite a few hidden ones. We can talk about how it was rammed through in the dead of night against the will of the public. Obamacare is still not a popular bill and it's the largest tax increase on the poor and middle class in history. Romney is walking a tight rope here but I see his strategy. Get Obama talking about Obamacare. Get Obama to defend his record.

He might say he wants to keep a provision here or there to help "pre existing conditions" or something. You have to remember who Romney is going for. The undecided. The people that aren't pissed off at Obama, just disappointed in him. Romney is attacking the Empathy Gap and at the same time he is exposing Obama's record.

So go ahead and cheer and let's talk about the largest tax increase on the poor and middle class in American History.

Dont worry he flip flopped back again a few hours later... and his aides are doing damage control as well.

Ok, lets talk about it. Where is the proof that it has doubled healthcare costs. What tax hikes are you talking about. I'm willing to listen to evidence.

CBO | Another Comment on CBO

For the provisions of the Affordable Care Act related to health insurance coverage, CBO and JCT’s latest estimates are quite similar to the estimates we released when the legislation was being considered in March 2010. The following figure shows CBO and JCT’s projections of the effects of the ACA on the number of people who will be uninsured or will receive insurance coverage through employer-sponsored insurance (ESI), insurance exchanges, or Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Although the latest projections extend the original ones by three years (corresponding to the shift in the regular 10-year projection period since the ACA was first being developed), the projections for each given year have changed little, on net, since March 2010.

The estimated budgetary impact of the coverage provisions has also changed little. The following figure shows CBO and JCT’s projections of the net cost to the federal government of the insurance coverage provisions of the ACA. Again, the latest projections extend the original ones by three years, but the projections for each given year have changed little, on net, since March 2010.

Refuted talking point is refuted. The claim of double was based on a misreading of a CBO report that got so widespread the CBO had to come back and point out that it was not true, which is the link above.
