We all know that there is bias in the media and that strories are created to try to damage someone politically.
No. Most of us know that media is bias toward selling ad space and time. They are bias toward holding their audience and will run stories that imply a dramatic conflict and keep the audience tuned in. Sex and conflict sells.
No legitimate study has ever proven that MSM overall leans left. In fact, most evidence points to MSM leaning right-of-center on economic and foreign policy issues, while being left-of-center on social issues. Which of the two most dramatically effects public policy?
TV News:
If you include punditry under MSM, then I'll point out the highest rated discussion shows are conservative leaning. Hell, the most watched cable news is the nightly GOP propaganda.
Print News:
The NYT caters to an east-coast audience and runs front page stories every week that reflect negatively on President Obama. But think about it, if you add up the readership of newspapers in the bible belt and midwest that cater to their audience, it cancels out as far as readership. Newspapers will run headlines and frame stories in manner that keeps their audience reading. In any newspaper office, there are going to be reporters who lean one way or the other. It just bugs the conservatives that the NYT gets called the 'paper of record'. Does anybody not reading the NYT really care about that?
Magazines, other print media:
US Magazine and People outsell Time and Newsweek. But if you want to do a head count, conservative political magazines outsell the liberal Mother Jones.
Local TV Media:
As far as straight network news, there is zero evidence of left-leaning or 'in the bag' bias. They program according to what will hold their viewers, and allow them to sell ad time. Your typical local crime report tends to promote a conservative lean and the Casey Anthony trial dominated the nightly news during the debt ceiling debate.
If the debt ceiling debate had been reported properly, then it would have put the new Tea Party congress in very bad light. But MSM led every night that week with Casey Anthony and Anthony Weiner's penis.
The notion that MSM is trying to damage a political party that controls committees that decide FCC policy is just plain retarded.
Why don't Dems complain when the lead story is a jobs report or anything that puts the President in a bad light? No one makes a stink when NYT runs a front page story about Afganistan costs and deaths. It seems like it's always the the Fox News watchers and Limbaughites who constantly regurgitate what is basically a conspiracy theory.
Its really sad that these so-called news outlets pretend to be legitimate when they are nothing but a propaganda arm of one party.
You mean like 'Fair and Balanced'? Do you people really buy that any more?
