Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin on Tuesday slammed Fox News’s coverage of the Democratic Party platform for focusing on the removal of the words “God” and “Jerusalem,” saying that the network is “harping on a trifle” and trying to present a false narrative that Democrats are “godless people.”

Fox News’s Bret Baier kicked off the tense interview by asking the Illinois Democrat why the 2012 party platform dropped the word “God” from the document after including it in previous years.

“Well, I can just basically tell you if the narrative that is being presented on your station and through your channel and your network is that the Democrats are godless people, they ought to know better,” Durbin told Baier. “God is not a franchise of the Republican Party.”

“Those of us who believe in God and those of us who have dedicated our lives to helping others in the name of God don’t want to take a second seat to anyone who is suggesting that one word out of the platform means that the Democrats across America are godless. Come on, Bret,” he added, trying to speak over Newark Mayor Cory Booker’s fiery speech in the background.

Baier defended his line of questioning, noting that he and those at Fox News are “reporting what’s in the platform. Durbin replied that if Baier is “trying to draw some conclusion that the Democrats are godless, present your evidence. Present your evidence.”

The Fox News host also asked Durbin to weigh in on the removal of the word “Jerusalem.” Durbin, who chaired the platform committee for two Democratic conventions, called what he produced “the most unread document in the history of American politics.” Durbin said Baier’s focus on two words left out of this year’s platform suggests “you are not focusing on the real issues that Americans care about.”

Durbin then accused Baier of not living up to Fox’s slogan. “Those two words coming out means our relationship with Israel has changed?” Durbin asked. “Is that fair, is that balanced?”

“I’m going to move on,” Baier said. “I hope you will,” Durbin said.

ah, now, why'd you have to go and do that, God wasn't hurting anyone

oh well

tax funded abortion in the 9th month was also inserted today

booker was indeed roaring in the background, the heroic mayor of trenton who rescues old ladies from burning buildings, who said the bain attacks were "nauseating" (before he was taken to the woodshed, from which the "hostage video" was released)

booker was explaining that "doing your fair share is patriotic"

as for jerusalem, alan dershowitz weighed in:

Dershowitz finds Democratic Israel platform troubling | The Daily Caller

the extremely influential liberal harvard law prof also finds "deeply troubling" the revisions in the planks concerning hamas and palestinian refugees---always coming down hard against zion

dershowitz' intellectual independence made news a few months ago

Dershowitz: Zimmerman prosecutors should be investigated - Manchester Independent | Examiner.com

"not only immoral but stupid" and "possibly criminal"

anyway, we're gonna have to look at these things---no God, no jerusalem and taxpayer funded third trimester abortion

what do you think mom will say?

The worst thing I could ever be called is a liberal democrat..

Schumer is asked about Obama's position after Democrats removed this pro-Israel language from this year's party platform: "Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths."

Schumer is not able to say why that language has been removed, and where President Obama stands on the issue.

CNN reported yesterday that the language was removed so that the platform would be aligned with the Obama administration's positions. The Democratic National Committee is "simply following what the Obama administration's policy is," CNN reported. "That the White House said several months ago that the status of Jerusalem is an issue that should be resolved in the final status negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians and that is why that is not in the platform as it was in 2008."

schumer is the most powerful man in harry reid's roundhouse

schumer is about as aipac as it gets, most of the ny caucus is too

67 borders, anyone?

but bigger than jerusalem is the removal of God from the party platform

and the public funding of 9th month abortion

they're gonna be huge issues in this election, ie, republicans are gonna hammer

these people in charlotte are extremists---the platform looks more like san francisco even than chicago

obama is on record as the leader of the anti-born-alive movment, no politician with one tenth barack hussein's stature has such a record

ya wanna talk social issues (most americans don't)?

but if you do, go ahead, keep on talking

mom is listening

Schumer...= Shmuck..

I think it is immoral to throw around the name of God, especially when His name is used for political gain. One's faith must first be deeply personal, not a public stance designed to rope in a certain constituency. It is irrelevant to me if a politician invokes the name of God because it has nothing whatsoever to do with his/her actual godliness.
