Democratic Gov. Martin O’Malley of Maryland, who is considered a possible contender for president in 2016, bucked other Obama surrogates on Sunday, saying that the country was not better off now than it was four years ago.

On CBS's Face the Nation, host Bob Schieffer asked: “Can you honestly say that people are better off today than they were four years ago?”

Responded O’Malley: “No, but that's not the question of this election. The question, without a doubt, we are not as well off as we were before George Bush brought us the Bush job losses, the Bush recession, the Bush deficits, the series of desert wars -- charged for the first time to credit cards, the national credit card.”

Quipped Schieffer: “George Bush is not on the ballots.”

Obama adviser treads carefully when asked whether Americans are better off | The Fix

maryland's omalley is the dga, chair of the democratic governor's assn

as such, the most news he's made for himself in the last several months is about how busy he's been running from venue to venue to "surrogate" himself out for the white house

O'Malley Wages War For Obama

obama has trouble finding willing and credible people he can put on tv

and cutter, gibbs, axelrod and plouffe can only wear so far

is it time for the cory booker treatment?

obama's bench has become so thin, this morning he had to send out rahm the ram emanuel to do mtp

LOL!

the entire city and state are a disaster, s&p just downgraded em this week, the teachers are threatening to walk, the murder rate is astronomical, the speaker mike madigan cashed two seiu checks each for 100K immediately after killing the pension reform mere days ago, the expiration of which precipitated s&p

on top of which, the ram is just a very mean and nasty man whom very, very few outside obama's inner circle actually like

politico's top story this morning is called "obama, party of one," and it's all about how "insular" his little circle is, so controlled by the insiders vs the outsiders, how fraught with infighting it is (axelrod, for instance, hates valerie jarrett who really might be the most powerful person in the white house after barry and michelle)

"obama, party of one" tells the tale of a white house with very icy and distant relationships, most unusual, with leaders and rank and file members of congress, the likes of which dismissiveness and disdain capitol hill has never seen

even richard nixon, at least that put out paranoiac engaged in regular consultation with hugh scott and howard baker

politico's "party of one" actually begins with silly season stuff about obama's dreams of not even having a convention (he doesn't like parties, you see), how he'd prefer instead separate small events in some of the most important swing states...

it's a dumb story, like much from politico whose writers are, all of them except dean roger simon (who is a wonderfully kind man but about as deep into analysis as bill oreilly), way too young and immature for them really to live up to their (self) billing

but they're actually there, in north carolina, in the brady briefing room, on af1, whereas you and i aren't

well, at least i'm not

the point---obama can't find anyone to go out and talk him up (debbie wasserman schultz, anyone?), and he and his really have nothing to say

his campaign has gone from bain to switzerland to felons and cancer deaths, on to tax returns and chains for blacks, then to todd akin and wild charges of racism...

this morning they want the 2012 presidential election to be all about clint eastwood

exactly WHO is the empty chair?

does this sound to you like a team that believes itself that it's winning?

so he turns to the ram---LOL!

the picture perfect poster boy for chicago big shoulders, machine cronyism, corruption and crime

and the tired old liberalism of yesterday

mckeon did a poll two weeks ago showing that COOK CO has swung, according to mckeon, exactly FORTY ONE POINTS away from barack hussein since his apotheosis at grant park down to deeply disappointing today

even if mckeon is half wrong, obama's cooked

and he's not---the suburbs of chicago, empirically, at the precincts, moved between 20 and 25 points between election days 2008 and 2010

what's changed since then?

other than the replacement of hope with a deep and abiding disappointment?

party on, progressives

seeya at the polls

enjoy your convention devoted to extremely divisive social issues
