"So when voter turnout was abysmally poor during last week’s primaries in Kansas and Missouri, many were upset. Talk radio hosts, Internet pundits, and members of the media all commented on the low participation rate, and quite a few were disturbed by the numbers."

"The results of the poll indicate that some 90 million Americans have no intention to vote in this year's presidential election; let’s hope that number swells over the coming months."

So it looks like the Birthers and the other "Libertarians" (Republicans) bid to shore up the GOP vote and campaign money donations with false stories about the President, will fall way short of expectations.

No turnout in 2012?

Advantage Obama. Low turnout historically benefits incumbents.

Well..ya know...when you're a taxpayer parasite, it's awfully inconvenient to brush off those chip crumbs, turn off that Xbox, and get off that couch on Election Day.

The workers will already be out. Don't count out those Obama lovers on thinking it's a cakewalk, so why leave the house?

or they dont want to vote because they dont like what either party has to say?

I'm not sure about that in this particular election. In 2008, there was HUGE black turnout. Will it be again? Or will that lady who thought Obama was going to pay her mortgage be disappointed?

Low turnouts tend to support Republicans.

I'll probably vote. I might not.

You scoff that the magic of Michelle O's ability to "bring back sleeveless" wont be enough??? : )

Wow, who'd have guessed that a massive Republican voter suppression effort would result in lower participation?

 these are people saying they do not intend to vote, and it's fairly consistent with what we've been seeing.

Nice troll, though. It almost even connected to the subject. :)

I can fully understand why people would not vote. The choices are pathetic. It's a lose-lose situation.

There is no "picking a winner".

The two-party system has failed a large majority of people in this country.

The Electoral College thing is miserable, and truly makes the individual feel like it's a worthless endeavor.

Why on earth should ANYBODY feel excited about voting in this day and age?

This has nothing to do with it.

Hey, voting for change is the least you can do. Really, it is just about the smallest rt you can put into changing your life. It is not surprising that only the sycophants think that their vote really does make a difference. The republicans are much better at scaring the gullible, and have the most gullible people to scare.

Our government has problems that voting just won't fix. It certainly extends far beyond who gets to be president. You put a bunch of greedy rich people in charge of making the laws of the country and surprise you have a bunch of rich greedy people controlling the country. Obama isn't going to bring about change, and Mitt romney isn't a solution. So i can see why a bunch of people who have no reral motivation won't vote. The republicans are great at motivating their base. obama is the fault of every bad thing you have ever seen. he will destroy your life, kill your kids, and sell off everything you own to the muslims. yeah, if i bought that load of **** i would be terrified and voting for mitt romney also.

The reality is they are all just trying to get elected so they can make things easier for their close friends to make money, and to collect legal bribes we call lobbies. An honorable, honest, good person would not get within a million miles of politics in america. The best you could hope for is to be made into the villain for trying to help the lazy greedy masses of the US. Obama and mitt are just the symptoms of the problem. People who think their vote for either of them contains the hope for US success or changing their own lives for the better are pretty much the problem. They are just as bad as a welfare whore. Here i voted, now give me my damned check. At least a welfare whore gets a check, they sell themselves for a glimmer of hope for the good life with no effort on their part.

I saw why america went down. it is a bunch of entitled people living on credit and entitled to the good life. no i am not talking about congress or any elected official. if your life is **** now because of the collapse of the bubble you did that with your greed. You did that with your overspending and your entitlement. Voting for a president to inflate the bubble so you can live higher than you should is just greedy bull****.

I feel their pain, but I am still going to vote............ For Gary Johnson.

That's sad to hear I was hoping it would be more like 200 million not voting because I do believe not voting is a vote. Specifically, it's a vote of no confidence while voting for a donkey or an elephant is a vote for eroding civil liberties, wars, banker bailouts, get out of jail free cards for bankers, things like TPP, earned income taxed at a higher rate than capital gains and chronic intervention in other countries affairs. Considering that's what the donkeys and elephants are offering I can't get worked up over a 3% difference in the earned income tax rate. They are not identical but to vote for either a donkey or elephant is to endorse the aforementioned policies which I can't do.

I hear ya.

Tis why I started this thread. <-- clicky

I think it's high time for a "NOTA" option.

I would not be too sure about that. Obama won in 2008 due to high turnout in many areas and among many groups supportive of his candidacy. Low turnout could hit him hard. I would also suspect that the really hardcore Obama haters will turn out in droves.

Offer up some reasons you believe are the cause of this apathy which is nothing new. My theory is disdain for politicians, "one vote won't make any difference" and the traditional long lines people just don't like to put up with. 90 million is a disgrace. I don't know what are voting age population is but if 90 million non-voters is correct we are screwed.

I believe still better than Canada's, were horrible in voter participation.

90 million is a disgrace. I don't know what are voting age population is but if 90 million non-voters is correct we are screwed.

Please explain to me how we're NOT screwed if every single registered voter shows up and votes in November?

How would that make any difference in our being screwed?

Aren't we just validating a corrupt process by voting in these 2 parties this time?
